I think I am beginning to see a pattern emerging regarding the cultural influences of FPS games. I have been thinking about this longer than I have been playing games and have been planning a post about it for a long time. The announcement of Inhabited Island: Prisoner of Power has forced me to write something.

Introduction When you are new to something it can be very daunting; there seems to be so much to learn, resources can be hard to find and use, help is often focused towards more advanced users. What’s needed is a gentle introduction with a specific focus for the type of questions you are likely to… Read More

IMALAZYBEEOTCH
Introduction I recently started playing Pariah and was really looking forward to it. Imagine my surprise when I found out that there was no manual save option. OK, I think it’s good when developers try new things and I was prepared to see what happens. I thought I read somewhere that the game saves at… Read More

Brothers
Introduction I wrote the following story for a couple of mod developers who were looking for a specific co-op storyline. The idea of writing a draft story specifically for a Co-Op mod is an interesting one and to my knowledge that has never been done, nor has a mod been made specifically for two players.… Read More

Manhack Revolution
Introduction This is a story for Half-Life 2. It is a specific story written to provide a background for a mod. I have no plans to make this mod; I just enjoy creating stories and concepts that could make mods. I will tell the story first and then describe the background and gameplay features. The… Read More

The Ark is a huge… Read More

Personalising Games
Introduction In the Switching Weapons post, Darth Marsden asked “Would you buy a game that didn’t have a machine gun?” And a clever question it is because it goes to the root of a particular issue that has been on my mind for a while, which we will return to in a moment. Although the… Read More

Single Player Competitions
Introduction In a previous post entitled Define a Great SP Player I discussed what skill set a good SP player needed. I didn’t provide the definitive answer but I at least started the discussion. As with many other posts the idea kept bouncing around in my head until another thought popped up. Multiplayer I don’t… Read More

Define A Great SP Player
In a previous post entitled Do We Expect to Die? I discussed the idea that players need to die, or at least have an event that make it clear the game has “beaten” you, in FPS games because if we didn’t then we wouldn’t feel challenged. Writing and thinking about that post got me thinking about “What exactly makes or defines a good SP Player?

Switching Weapons
Introduction Just a quick question for you: How often do you switch weapons when playing SP Games? Am I the only player who rarely switches weapons? I was playing a Chaser mod last night called Longwood Complex when I noticed I that although I had collect about 5 other weapons I hadn’t switched to any… Read More
