The developers of human Error, Flesh and Research and Development have announced a new Total Conversion mod called Water. The mods looks pretty cool and it’s another mod for review on my new website, but what this post is about is one of the features listed.

Poll Question 201 – Do you like overlay maps?
The Rising looks a pretty cool mod and I’ll definitely be reviewing it for me new website but one thing that struck me was the overlay maps.
I know it’s a multiplayer mod but it got me thinking why mods include them. I can’t decide if I like them or not.

Poll Question 200 – Do you want more detailed player model?
There’s a cool video making the rounds of website links called Unfinished 1st person test (new footage at end) by thejazzman9475, yes, he of those TF2 dance videos. Highly recommended BTW. Got me thinking about whether this was something I wanted to see in EP3

5 Half-Life 2 Music Videos
I love MTV. Unlike many, if not most of you, I was around when it first launched and was working in the fitness industry at the time. The hours we spent working out and watching MTV! Ahhh, the good ol days. Anyway, I love to just put the TV on and watch the vids whenever I get the chance, which isn’t often and normally only when I get to stay in a hotel.
Half-Life has spawned a LOT of videos on YouTube and the like, but most aren’t very good. I’ve decided to post 5 videos that use Half-Life 2. If yours didn’t make the list, just comment and I’ll take a look. I may post a part two next year.
They are in no particular order. So, let’s get started.

Poll Question 199 – For mod media, do you prefer screenshots or videos?
This type of question can be hard to answer because it depends on so many things: the type of mod, the video editing ability, the attention to detail of the screenshots etc etc.
Try to imagine that both the screenshots and videos are both perfectly created.

Interviewing my own readers
I just thought I might ask you a few questions.
Don’t take it too seriously, it’s just a bit of fun

Poll Question 198 – What Half-Life games have you finished playing?
Not the most interesting poll question on PP, but I am hoping the results prove interesting. As you would imagine I have played all of them but I suspect that HL2 and EP2 will be the “winners” here.
I have to admit I am curious as to how many players have play BS and OP.
Anyway, get voting and let’s see what the results are.

Poll Question 197 – Would you like a mod that offered you more control over what weapons you had?
I’m not sure what got me thinking about this but I know that a lot of players are really interested in different types of weapons. I’m not. I’ll take whatever the mapper gives me and use that.
I wonder if players would like more “load-out” style rooms before certain sections of mods. I understand that it gives mods some replay value by adding more variables but just feels too artificial for me.

Poll Question 196 – Are canon mods better than non-canon mods?
I was thinking about what Jasper said about Barney dying in Strider Mountain and the whole “canon” thing.
One of the great things about mods is that they are not limited by some of the constraints that games are. Modder can go crazy and let their imagination run wild.

How to make a boring single player mod
It’s become clear that modders are getting very good and are becoming too ambitious. It’s time for me to remind them of the basics.
In this article I am going to cover the essentials of making a boring mod. Hopefully, it will be read by thousands of modders and in just a few short months we will all reap the benefits!
