Wikipedia defines Flashbulb Memories as “a highly detailed, exceptionally vivid ‘snapshot’ of the moment and circumstances in which a piece of surprising and consequential (or emotionally arousing) news was heard.”
We normally associate flashbulb memories with incredibly sociological events and I in no way want to belittle these types of events or their consequences by comparing our mini-memories of videos games to these events.
In May 2011 I conducted an email interview with Aaron Hutton, maker of Dissolution. Originally, I published this on MODoftheWEEK but since that’s dead, here it is.

Well, here’s an interesting interview I just had with the guys working on Operation Black Mesa and Guard Duty.
There’s an announcement at the beginning, along with a couple of exclusive screenshots, one piece of concept art and a wallpaper.
I am sure the guys will be dropping by, so if you have any questions for them, just ask, although I can’t guarantee they will answer them.

My first thought after I heard “Dear Esther” had recouped its investment in the initial 6 hours after release was “so what? Bully for them”.
Not that I don’t wish the authors success – I do. I’m certainly not a fan of mods that turn retail mid development but that doesn’t mean I want them to fail. If there are enough potential buyers then that’s great.

As I finished a map just now, up popped the Steam window trying to sell me stuff, which is frightfully annoying, and the frontpage was the COD MW3 Free Weekend.
I have never tried one of these promotions and wondered how many of you have.
It’s a very good idea and I am awfully curious to know how many actually buy the game afterwards.
What about you, do you try them?

I got an email from GameFly last week, trying to sell me their service. You can rent games or something, I don’t really know or care.
It seems that they have bought or merged with Direct2Drive, so they also have a client like Steam. I even have a code for 30% discount on my first purchase, plus a code for 30 days free rental service. If any reader would like them, please contact me – first come, first served.

So I was checking out a game on Steam and I noticed who had the game and one person I know has all the games on Steam.
Yes, I do mean all.
Some readers know him, but I won’t explicitly say who he his. He has a special Steam account that gives him every single game released.

I am pleased to announce the next mapping competition: NewBlackMesaVille.
Well it’s time for a change. The next mapping competition will be on GoldSource, that’s the Half-Life 1 engine. Why? I hear you ask. Well, firstly, it’s something I have wanted to do for a while. Secondly, there’s a Source mod announcement coming soon that would interfere with a normal competition.

Just launched my feed reader and saw that Valve has introduced a Steam Mobile service.
