October is upon us.
Leaves changing colour, more rainy days meaning no more excuses to not be in front of our computers playing Half-Life mods!
Got any modding plans for this winter? Gonna build your first mod? You should. In fact, so should I!
A collection of text posts, including Poll Questions, Text Interviews with moddersand Phillip’s Blog. All posts are written to encourage friendly debate and discussion.
Follow the Read releases via RSSIn the first in a short series of hardware polls, this week’s poll is about the age of your main gaming computer.
The question was suggested by a reader who is building a mod and has decided to ensure his son’s computer can run it, since it’s quite old.
It’s a sensible philosophy but when he suggested it to me, we couldn’t find a good way of classifying PCs.

Today is the site’s 11th birthday.
Can’t believe I have been doing this for so long.
Let’s hope the future of HL modding is bright.

You’ve probably noticed that I have started livestreaming and then uploading my initial playthroughs of the maps and mods I now add (see the sidebar for the YouTube and Twitch channels).
I have to play them to get screenshots and write a review, so it’s actually not that much extra work for me.

Today is PlanetPhillip.Com’s 4000th day online.
I don’t really make much fuss over anniversaries but this one seems kinda cool.
So, here are my thoughts from the last 3999 days…

Somebody recently mentioned that he thought I had a lot of games. I had to look on my account to see how many I actually had. If I had had to take a guess without looking I would have said about 30. It was actually 60.
Then on Saturday I was chatting with somebody and looked at their account and they had 257, which I thought was a lot and just now I checked somebody out who has 513!

Welcome to September!
My Squash training should be over (I never did any due to injury) and the season should be about to start. I’m still injured and will probably miss the whole of September, which means I won’t be fully fit until January – being old SUCKS!
Anyway, the good news is that it leaves me more time for the site, so expect regular updates.
I’ll even try to restart the weekly Poll Questions, if I can think of enough interesting things to write about.
Hopefully, I’ll also finish The Trap and start a new long term Twitch series.
So, how was your Summer?

I pride myself on always trying to make the site better. Not just by adding new content, but by improving or introducing new features.
Today I am pleased to announce the rollout of Phase 1 of the PP Profile page.
This post will explain its current features and hint at Phase 2 and 3.

Originally, this poll was going to be about “Have you ever found a game in your Steam Library and have no idea how it got there?” because I saw Borderlands 2 in my Library and tweeted about it and helpfully Dan Jordan told me it was on free trial.
But then I realized that it probably never happens anyway – or does it?
So, this idea came from that one.
To be honest, I don’t think I have ever taken advantage of a free trial. Basically, if I like the look of a game I buy it. That sounds a bit snobbish and I recognize that I should use these trials to play games outside of my usual genre.
I kinda wrote something along the same idea years ago called Game Radio Idea.
Well, there you have the background to this poll, but now it’s time to let me have your thoughts on these free trails and don’t forget to vote…

Welcome to August!
By the time you read this, I will be on holiday for 3 weeks in the UK. I’ll be checking my email and the comments, but won’t be posting anything until the last week of August.
I didn’t find any interesting videos to add this month, but maybe you can?
Have a great August and see you all soon.
