50-Hour Mapping Challenge – CromulentVille

Hello and welcome to the second 50-Hour Mapping Challenge – CromulentVille.

Below are the details.

PLEASE READ THEM CAREFULLY.

As always, if you have any questions, you can either post a comment or if you require a private reply, send Phillip an email: [email protected]

Theme Details

Your task is to create a perfectly cromulent map.

Is your map silly? Absurd? Weird? Hilarious, crazy, or a complete joke? Great! These are all cromulent maps and they’re exactly what we’re looking for.

Use this opportunity to embiggen your creativity.

If your map leaves players saying, “WTF did I just play?” – perfect!

Make players laugh, make them cry – but make them FEEL something. You have 50 hours!

GOOD LUCK!

Full details will be announced then, along with all the rules and the theme.

The deadline will be 12pm Central European Summer Time on Sunday 9th July 2017.

And, yes, the header image is a vague clue, but it’s NOT TheSimpsonVille!

If you have ANY questions, except related to the theme, please don’t hesitate to ask, either here in the comments or by email ([email protected]) if you prefer a private answer.

July 2017 General Chat

What a start to July! Yes, I know said that last month, but today sees BridgeVille released.

Last month, I had some issues with hosting but I am now on Stage 1 of my update. I am currently on a temporary host, which seem okay, but it’s only temporary because I will be moving over to dedicated hosting very soon.

As you probably saw, I’ll be livestreaming later today and tomorrow too. Full details HERE.

Now, you may have also seen my tweets this week talking about the Steam Summer Sale. Well, I bought 11 games for a total cost of 21 Euros. I also transferred about 7 games from my Gift section to my Library. That’s a LOT of games I gotta play. What about you? DId you spend more money than you expected?

What plans do you have for July?

What is this post?

Each month I create a “General Chat” post for readers to post whatever they want within the limits of being a family-friendly website.

Please don’t post reviews, questions or comments about maps and mods listed on the site – post them on the respective post – all those comments will be deleted. I do this to ensure that when a reader visits a map or mod page, all the information is in one place.

About this Month’s Image

Back in June 2014, I started to use a poster from a classic Sci-Fi movie as the background for the post image.
Starting in June 2016, I started to use images taken from old FPS games.
And for 2017, I started using images from sci-fi books, but from this point forward I will just use a random image from a mod or game to reduce the time it takes to make the post.

Your task, should you wish to accept it, is to guess the mod or game. It may or MAY NOT have been released yet – DUN DUN DUH!

RTSL Graffiti

I am very pleased to announce that some exclusive RTSL graffiti has been created by Monkeymo and I would like to thank him for all his hard work.

We worked together to get exactly what I was looking for but he did all the work. After some feedback from modders a grunge/grimmy feel was settled on.

Crowbar converted the images into VTF (files that can be used by modders) and made the demonstration map, from which the image below have been taken and I would like to thank him too.

The graffiti is available for use by any mapper and no entry to any mapping challenge is obligated to use them. They can be used in any non-commercial Source release but a credit to Monkeymo and RTSL MUST be included.

In future, I may offer a small prize (or even extra points if the judges agree) for clever use or placement of the graffiti in maps entered into mapping challenges.

The Future of RTSL Hosting

A couple of days ago I work up to find the site offline.

It’s a horrible feeling, especially if you don’t have time to fix it before leaving for work or worse, having to wait for somebody to do something before you can do something else.

This fairly brief post will explain the result of that outage.

June 2017 General Chat

What a start to June!
As you probably saw, the site was down for all of yesterday and for that I apologise. I want to make it clear that it was NOT Nodecraft’s fault and I fully support them. I will be moving hosts very soon and will explain properly soon.

I hope to start livestreaming again soon, maybe even this weekend and I am dying to get back to mapping.

I think the Steam Summer sale starts soon, so I’ll no doubt be buying some games for my collection.

What plans do you have for June?

The Hammer Cup 2017 – Challenge 3 Dates

Hi Everybody,

Just to let you know that challenge 3 of The Hammer Cup 2017 is going to start Wednesday 31st May 2017 at 11am Central European Summer Time.

I will be posting the theme details along with the regular rules then.

For this challenge, there will be a compulsory email format submission, along with an optional chapter image format, details of both will be in the post.

Standard rules will apply.

I will answer any questions you have except those related to the theme.

If any mapper is interested in creating a bonus map for the challenge, please let me know. You WILL NOT get to learn of the theme early but you will be allowed to submit your map later than the entrants. You WILL NOT receive any points either.

Starting Sunday, I will begin a tease countdown on the RTSL twitter account.

Thanks for reading and remember, finishing Half-Life is just the beginning!

Oh, BTW, no the header image contains NO information, clues, hints about the theme, so don’t try to guess!
