This is where Map Labs all started. Last year’s Halloween Horror, here in time for the spooky season this year.
The mappers were charged with, of course, making a scary or Halloween-themed map. The challenge recieved 7 entries and 1 bonus map. Spooky ones, creepy ones, weird ones. Have fun!

You play as a cosmonaut who has had to abandon their space station, but upon arriving back on earth, discover that the place has been overrun by the combine. What happens next? Do you give in to the Combine army, or do you resist and use your skills to find some way of escaping?
Cosmonaut is Dolmo’s greatly expanded and polished version of his entry of the same name for last year’s NostalgiaVille mapping challenge.

This clever Map Labs challenge was a partnership with the great folks at Lambda Generation. Here was the challenge:
Imagine this: Your friend is too lazy to play Half-Life. They tell you that they’d rather experience the games in an abridged form of some kind. A little annoyed, you walk back to your desk and start creating just that.
Take a chapter from any Half-Life game, and make it WAY smaller. That’s the challenge! Half-Life: Abridged.

This takes place during the uprising of City 17 and Barney, who is leading the resistance, spreads news all around to remind all citizens that Gordon Freeman has arrived. Playing as a rebel, your squad has suggested that you go ahead and grab any supplies while you’re on your way to the Citadel so you can assist the Freeman.

The Map Labs team keeps cranking out quality mapping challenges. This time they approached me to ask about a crossover challenge and I suggested a sequel to the namesake contest RunThinkShootLiveVille. That was a fun challenge to run and play, and some memorable maps were entered.
So for this first crossover with Map Labs, the theme was to make a map featuring the sections Run, Think, Shoot, Live – in any order.

Waking up in a mine-turned-rebel base during an attack, you have to reach the surface and rid the base of intruders en route – but even if you make it, your chances of escape are getting slimmer by the minute. So grab a gun and do what you can before the site gets sealed off!
I made this map for TWHL’s “Ascension” Mini Competition.

For Valentine’s Day, Map Labs announced a short mapping challenge. This one was a Test Tube, which means it only ran for a few days instead of the typical 3 weeks.
The theme was to make a map featuring a companion or sidekick character. Bonus challenge for creating the map with a companion as well!
