To be honest I was disappointed with this. I thought the idea of having to disarm bombs might be fun, especially if there was a timer.
You only actually get to disarm one bomb and the rest is combat that towards the end gets silly.
I ran out of ammo and had to cheat to reach the end. Even if I had ammo I don’t think I would have got past the last main room.
All in all it had potential but I felt the gameplay lacked testing and thought.

Quite tricky mod.
The bomb deactivation was kind of dull, and after that the whole thing was to kill every xenian it blocked ur way, I agree the bomb thing is just a hook and after that is just a plain map as every opforce so far I’ve played…

I’m not the most patient of players and this really tried my patience!
For a map that was published in May this year, nearly 13yrs after OP4 was released I really expected better! Also the author is a graduate of SMU, which leads me to suspect this is something he did earlier but has only recently released it.
For looks it was OK, but gameplay was a pretty poor, once you’ve defused the bomb it’s kill every thing on the way to a poor ending.
I would give it an AI, but it was better than J2000.

Just to correct my mistake. The author is not a graduate of SMU. That was my mistake. I just hadn’t edited that part of the template. Sorry about that. I have now corrected the details.
When I saw the title, this was all I could think of:
This map had cool ideas but they weren’t implemented well. The traps could be cool but they just came off as cheap and repetitive. The bomb disarming made no sense and I just had to guess it. Like Phillip, I ran out of ammo before I got to the end. The Part with the fans reminded me of the similar parts in Half-Life: Zombie Edition and Serious Sam: The First Encounter where you had to keep going forward while fans push you on either side. Like J2000, there wasn’t any OP4 content. Poor Implementation of Cool Ideas.
Ugh, this wasn’t just disappointing – it was grueling to play. There is only one bomb to defuse and a bunch of instant-death traps to avoid (sometimes without warning). I think some of the traps are fair and avoidable, but there are some that are just sudden death with no warning which I think are unfair to the player (such as the collapsing catwalk in the fan chamber). It’s just cheap.
Combine that with very basic, blocky architecture and some really boring enemy encounters (you just have to kill Xen aliens that are standing in your way in really tight hallways) and you unfortunately have another weak entry in the OFNF. There are no Race X enemies, but there are at least a couple of Op4-specific enemies and a weapon if you hunt for it.
The only reason I would say Think Twice about this map over an Avoid It is that the bomb defusion is an interesting concept. How it’s implemented here is decent although I really think you could take the author’s same idea and built nicely on it to really make it intriguing and more of a puzzle. Be sure to read the text at the beginning.

Edit:
After speaking with Unq, I realized that there was OP4 content in this: The Gonome and the Deagle. Speaking of the Deagle, it was in the “Under Tunnel” area that I missed the first time. It also has some health, batteries and a button that does nothing. The door before the wind chamber actually GAVE me health while standing next to it. The AI on some enemies wouldn’t do anything. I’m lowering my score to TT due to bugs and broken AI.

I’ll admit I gave up on playing this because of the random explosion traps. The bomb disposal aspect was confusing and the hallways crammed with enemies are just silly. I give it a maybe because other people might enjoy it more.

I didn’t see anything pleasing in the design and gameplay of this. Boring fights, annoying deathtraps. In the room with the bomb I disconnected the wires and pressed the button. It said that the bomb is defused, but when I went to the corridor the explosion happened. I had to use invincibility cheat to get through that place.
After that there was some struggling through crowds of monsters, ventilation where bridge breaks under the player’s feet, all that just to get to the poorly designed ending scene, where cage with us moves very slowly and then some device kills us and it says “the end”.
I don’t recommend to play this, because I didn’t find it fun at all.

Not very exciting nor totally bad. However the map knows to frustrate the player with those boby traps at the beginning.
I guess the author had a very modified skills.cfg because I died each time I passed em. So I was forced to relay down on cheats because in one of the tight corridors it was impossible for me to pass that obstacle.
I’ve seen better maps but also worse maps than this.

AUTHOR: By the way I (Necromancer) am the correct author of this map. (There was just a typing issue before) Thanks for your reviews. I really appreciate them, even the negative ones. Because reading your reviews is how I am going to learn to create better maps in the future. Thanks!
@Necromancer: Should you hang around on moddb.com feel free to contact me (same username) I’m sure I can give you some tips and tricks or a helping hand here and there.
Despite being called bomb squad, you only disarm one bomb and the rest of the level is spent fighting Xen enemies. Don’t get me wrong, the level is bad, with many cheap traps, cramped corridors, broken AI, poor balance, and generally poor mapping. But somehow… I had fun? I’ve played worse Op4 maps that’s for sure. The actual bomb disposal is interesting but very simple and straightforward. It’s an idea that would be cool to see featured in a much longer map. As for the lack of resources? You can actually finish the map, even in Hard, but just barely due to the very very low amount of ammo. You’ll have to crowbar a lot of enemies to survive the end.
