You start off in your bedroom and a noise alerts you.
You are kidnapped and then forced to fight your way through the research facility.
Be careful, enemies are stronger and not everybody is as they seem.

I recommend this mod if you want to suffer the sadism of mappers, like in Half Quake.
A big Challenge with modificated weapons, modif. enemies and 2/5 mapping.
Alas–I follow the readme.txt installation instructions, and bloodbath doesn’t appear in my custom games list. This happens more often than not when I try to install mods. I have the latest patch, don’t have Steam installed…
does anyone have any suggestions?
The readme.txt in this mod is wrong. Follow the instructions of the Blood Bath.txt. Also, try the suggestions I left you for BlackOps if you still can’t get it running.
No problem installing – just put the bloodbath folder in your Sierra/Half-Life folder and add “-game bloodbath” to your desktop shortcut. There are also 13 extra maps in the pack. These can be accessed by adding “+map mapname” to the above shortcut. (Without the quotes). Look in the pack’s map folder for the extra map names. ie the ones not called bb1, bb2, bb3 etc.
This is a well written mod, although it doesn’t really flow logically, it’s a challenging bunch of episodes with fighting and puzzle solving mixed together. The beginning is a bit messy design-wise, and the first big area is slightly rough around the edges and there’s the obligatory “almost impossible” jump. Once it gets going things get seriously enjoyable.
The set peices are truly original, with a modified scientist who wants to help you but… well see for yourself! When there’s a group of them around as you’re trying to escape, it becomes very tense, with much quick saving.
Monster skins and weapons have also been modified, the rapid fire rates have been increased, weapon sounds are improved and the magnum now has telescopic sights(!). There’s also an appearance from someone who looks like he’s from reservoir dogs!
Play on difficult and it will be!. About 2 hours play. Highly recommended.
Oops! My mistake. The extra maps are multiplayer base maps and as such, are not much use for single player. Duh.
I love these kinds of mods. The ones that have no storyline (well, you get rejected by “a totally hot girl” according to the “Blood Bath.txt’), but have plenty of fun situations to shoot or solve your way out of.
Blood Bath doesn’t waste any time, dropping you into a gigantic pool with only a crossbow to take on the murky waters below. It’s an abrupt and admittedly frustrating start, but once you get into the thick of things, you’ll be running and blasting your way to an exciting conclusion.
Modified and retextured NPCs keeps things feeling fresh. The author knows sure knows how to establish a tense atmosphere, too. You’ll be terrified to walk down a corridor full of boxes with “CAUTION” written all over them, while a shootout amongst destructible cubicles will leave you feeling like an action hero.
All of this leads to an exciting and explosive conclusion, and really, who *doesn’t* like large explosions?
Bare through the masochistic start and you’ll be faced with an absolutely stellar mod.
Good MOD but I am stuck! After comming down the elevator I am in a large room and the G-Man realeases a Giant Mother Spider Monster. She is spitting at me and spawning aliens. I can’t beat her! Any Advice???
Nevermind! Finished it, great MOD, wish it was longer!
The readme tells a unique story in a funny way and concludes with “you have to kill anyone” so additional storytelling won’t be necessary throughout the mod. But some sort of presence is felt, because most doors won’t open until you have killed everyone in sight. It’s like going from test to test, level to level while being observed and there’s no way you can run and gun through them. Also, you have to watch your health and ammo, cause you don’t know what might come next!
Rough start, I thought to myself, like many other mods, but mostly just start that way. Turns out, this one had a rough middle and ending, too.
SPOILER coming up: The part that shocked me, even though I think I’ve experienced it in another mod, was with the scientist poisoning me. “Our own kind, turning against us!” came in my head. Scary! And what are those scientists made of?! a grenade and 2 headshots barely get one!!
END SPOILER
New skins on Gman and slaves (btw: two clips and a half on a slave? highly unfair) and small weapons modifications (but just because it’s new, doesn’t mean I liked it, because the shotgun reacts kinda slow in shooting AND reloading and has a strong recoil; plus the pistol’s aim seemed a bit off).
Those jumps through the trip lasers are crazy, but fun.
And of course the ending had to be tough, also. A boss fight.
I do have one major complaint: I’ve spent 15 minutes in the second map trying to figure out what to do and found out by accident. SPOILER/HINT: I had to shoot that rock (?!) which I thought was there to help me jump on something or.. I don’t know! But giving the fact that there have been exploding rocks in (very few) other mods and this one even looked different, I think I’m the one to blame.
A small bug that I can think of: an elevator button is invisible. The mapping isn’t great, but sometimes that’s the last thing on your mind when fighting for your life. All I can say is it didn’t suck either because there are some well thought places from where you can avoid the heat and fight better (SPOILER/HINT: in the scene with many scientists, if you stand on the box in the center, the scientists won’t attack you).
Even though I played this with a little frustration and very much frowning (mostly due to high concentration), I very much enjoyed this map pack/mod.
This is one serious mod all the way. It makes you think that you’ve only been playing foolishly in the hl universe or
that the other mods are too easy and you have so much more to learn when it comes to skills, whether it’s in jumping, fighting, or even puzzle solving.
Some might not appreciate this, but I assure you there are many other mods out there way harder which make way less sense than this one and, of course, with a lot more bugs.
Play it now!
Not bad mod!!!
Ha its good mod for pro-gamer
Talk about weird start. You are just so lost what to do in the beginning.
But gets better later. Nice new sounds, interesting new models and funny scientist that wants to heal you. But I dont think mapping was anything special. Mad puzzles, you have to know to jump fast and accurate.
And if you are fast with those puzzles, this mod does not take too long to finish.
I found this mod extremely hard and had to cheat to finish it in time to post. Normally, that annoys me but not this time as I don’t think it would have been fun to play anyway.
Hard can be fun when it’s about tactics and skill but he it’s hard because each enemy requires more hits and they take more health from you when they attack you.
I have little doubt that many will enjoy this mod, as evidenced by the previous 5 PLAY IT NOW recommendation images, but I feel most won’t.
The layout is just a serious of rooms that challenge the player and it has no sense.
It’s not even if it was like The Cube, which at least ha a theme.
There’s nothing remarkable about the design, layout etc, so it’s more about the gameplay, which, as I said, is hard.
Only for video-game masochists out there.
That was ridiculously difficult, which might be OK for some but not for me!
If I hadn’t learnt to cheat not long after the 100 started I most certainly would have not bothered to see how it finished (another train ride). Even the start wasn’t that good, you wake up in what looks like a teenage boys bedroom, judging by the posters on the wall, and a semi-auto pistol on the bedside table (must be American?). You then read a badly written newspaper leave the room and the next thing you know, you’re in a tank of water? At the corridor with the Vort’s in crates I turned on god mode as I didn’t have enough ammo and the crowbar was next to useless, in the room with mad scientists I emptied a clip and a half at close range into one before he dropped? The .357 magnum took at least 3 shots on Vort’s but only one on grunts and the recovery time between shots was totally unrealistic.
Even with god mode on, I found this to be tedious. Had the author toned down the difficulty and included more health and ammo I would probably enjoyed it. As for the look and feel I didn’t take much notice as I was not having fun, but looking at the screenshots some areas look interesting.
If you like your mods hard then play it now, but for me I only can recommend it if you want to finish as many of the 100 as possible.
This is a strange mod. I do not even know what the story, how I got to these places and . I had to search mod an city17.ru
Well, as pointed out by our favorite reviewer Yoann Andreev, the game was attached text file, which says that the protagonist is a teenager, who girl a threw. In the city began to disappear people. What kind of place where we are not told. Garbage. Why not simply say that people disappear in the city, as well as our destination? That’s it! What for me to know who threw the character? Girl? Whatever. I am interested in the purpose of his trip.
Where we are, I do not understand, like the research center. Mapping wretched, nasty square room with a couple of hints on the details. The game often slows down and takes off. Enemies are more tenacious. For example, a scientist, omg.
I didn’t finish the mod , bugs here and there, in short, they are everywhere. In short, this mod was not lucky with its author.
Outcome and assessment: 2. Above shall not put. Reasons, which is higher enough to fight off the desire to play.
I don’t get the earlier positive reviews for this pack. I found it to be an unfair, poorly mapped, frustrating, steaming pile. I hated it.
There’s some talent here, mainly in the coding. There are some tweaks to the Half-Life weapons, but not always for the better. There is a new sound for the assault rifle, and it seems to shoot faster. But for the shotgun, it shoots faster if you’re shooting 1 round but much slower if you’re shooting 2 compared to the normal HL shotgun. It’s frustrating since you have no feedback as to when you can fire the shotgun again, it just doesn’t respond to the fire button. There are some new enemies, particularly a slave that is strong and only hits you (no green lightning) and evil scientists who chase you and inject you with something. They’re nice touches.
The mapping and game balance are quite poor. The locations seem to be just thrown together in no coherent order. The mapping is blocky and uninteresting. And I like challenging mods, but this was above and beyond. I simply didn’t have enough ammo and weapons to face the bigmomma (that spawns those special alien slaves instead of baby headcrabs by the way) near the end, and I played on medium. If I lose it should be because of a challenging battle, not because I ran out of ammo.
Skip it.
We wake up at home, which stands in the clean flat field(!), hearing some noise. We take a pistol and go to have a look. Then we see a bright flash and come to ourself in the laboratory, then we are transported to some Xen cave. The cave is boring, one of the walls is flat. Soon we get out of there and go through the ventilation which is illuminated by the green light which comes out of nowhere.
Then there’s an obstacle course. We dodge laser beams, turn off alarms, fight bosses. There are new monsters: Alien Slave with much health and hand-drawn in “Paint” green eye, ill scientist who tries to “cure” us to death. At some point we’ll have to gather stairs and evade enemies at the same time. The idea is original, but playing this is not fun, so I used “sv_gravity” to complete that place. Later the mod will claim originality, too:
Turrets which shoot shotgun shells, taking down the helicopter with a revolver, man who tries to push us away.
I had enough weapons and ammo for Gonarch, but it had too much health so I had to cheat in order to defeat it.
The design is primitive and boring.
Conclusion – originality for the sake of originality. New ideas? That’s good, but the design, atmosphere, and story are also important and needed. And the game must be enjoyable, and this mod lacks it completely! When playing this, I’ve got a feeling that the point of the mod is: “Look what I can do!” and the author is a schoolboy who recently learned programming and started to play with the game source code. I don’t understand the positive reviews, too.
I think, this is a mod to play it latter just as the recomendation label says, I didn’t actually remember i’ve played this like 3 or 4 years ago maybe more, but here you just have good hard ass crazy combat against npc, just with no specific reason, so don’t expect an epic story here, the weapons modifications in the sounds were cool, but over all this is soo difficult and if u manage to get to gornach without cheatings, beliveme, u will do it soon…..
Oh I forgot to mention that the crazy scientists that try to inject u poisson are so cool and the most classic asset of this mod, I love those crazy kleiner trying to make me harm the bastards…., i’d love to see more of those in more funky mods or maps…..
Ugh.
From the very start this mod was garbage. From poor room and map design (I got stuck several times just in the first liquid chamber) to a completely nonexistent plotline, I cannot recommend anyone really play this expecting anything other than a god-mode-fueled fight.
While I cay say I liked the skins on a couple things (bloody scientists, Agent Smith gman) most of the maps were very blocky and uninspiring, some felt incomplete. By the time I was in the first air vent, I had 19 health (up from 10 the last restart), I knew it would just have to be a god-mode mod.
The voices were… well, they were there. Badly under-recorded and hardly audible over anything else going on.
I hope that the guys who made this went on to actually look at level design in a more coherent manner to see how guiding the player through things works. There was absolutely no indication of what area to explore first when given a choice, at least not when I played, and that’s a key factor in whether any mod ‘succeeds” for me. This one failed miserably to do that.
So, I give it an “ugh”.
Judging by the other reviews it looks like this is a love/hate mod.
I really enjoyed this mod. The action was really fun and tricky in areas and there was quite a lot of it throughout the whole mod. There are a few puzzles too such as the laser jump and climbing out of the pit, although the majority are typical press a button and open a door. Personally I thought this was relatively easy although I can see why some people struggled with it, and for me it was a very fun difficulty.
The new content in this mod was another good area. The scientists that attack you, the weapon and enemy sounds, the reskinned Vortigaunts and the new shotgun were all done very well and just added to the enjoyment
Overall it’s certainly worth a play.
Sure was hard…but hey..I did it, cheated when I needed too, didn’t when I didn’t…..it’s about the journey…right ?
The title “Blood Bath” pretty much describes my feeling of this mod. I don’t think I have died so much in any game, ever. The tediousness and the insanely difficult combat just amounted to frustration and annoyance, which I don’t find desirable in any form of entertainment.
Some of the environments appeared interesting and unique, though most of the areas were lacking detail and as a result felt very empty. One of the other major problems was that the areas didn’t seem to logically transition between each other so it felt like a jumble of test map areas connected together. A more coherent layout and design would probably help navigation as well.
Then we come to the combat. At the start it was hard but manageable, unfortunately, it just got worse. I thought the inclusion of new enemies like the scientist was an interesting touch because I didn’t suspect it until it was too late. However, dumping me in a square arena to fend off a mob of them is just not fun, especially when it feels like I need to expend half may ammo reserve to kill just one of them. This wasn’t a one off either. Mobbing Arenas were a constant theme through the mod.
This mod was so insanely hard that I ended up using god-mode and even then I almost ran out of ammo by the end. I think that if you can finish this one without cheating then you are either superhuman or lying.
There were some interesting new enemies that might be worth a look at but you would need to be an extreme masochist to try and play through this one without cheats. For me, this mod was a tedious chore and no game or mod should ever feel like that.
I’m stuck in the big room with the scientist that want to heal me to death. How do I get out of the room or how do you kill the scientist?
Just keep shooting them/him. They have much higher health than normal.
Ok, I’m completely lost on what to do after you kill the first batch of enemies. You obviously have to get higher, but for the life of me I can’t figure out how to get there.
Hello, I’m surprised and happy people are playing and enjoying this still. I made this mod almost a decade ago, They posted the wrong author “[M82A1]-=NIXENT=-” I was never known by that.
Anyway I think many of the bad reviews are funny. This was the funniest
“”Look what I can do!” and the author is a schoolboy who recently learned programming and started to play with the game source code.”
Its so true, I made it by my self when I was in high school after learning to map and code from messing around with half-life for a couple years.
Yeah I guess I did use to make my mods far too hard. Partly because I wanted to make up for the fact that the mod is only about 5-6 maps long and partly because I did not have enough play testers, I found it easy of course because I designed it. I really wish I did that first room differently though…
Thanks for the good reviews, bad reviews, and just playing it.
Check out “Haywire” The side-scrolling 2d-ish half-life mod I made
Or “War Crimes” my first mod, really hard, worse mapping
Or even “Outbreak” multiplayer zombie madness
Hey, nice to see you here. Sorry about the author mistake. I have corrected it.
This is one of those mods that I found on FileFront that I had no Idea what it was about.
Sorry but this mod is terrible, you don’t have any clue why or what you must do and where you at, then the level design is horrible, the whole mod loox like from a random generator meh…
Waste of time!
Wow, I’m a little surprised at how many of the reviews here are mixed/negative, i had a BLAST playing this one. In terms of mapping it’s probably not the best, but I think the gimmicks the mod offers is a large part of what makes it so fun.
The content of the mod is mostly combat oriented, but there’s a couple of puzzles and a stealth section here and there. I don’t know if the mod was made easier when I played it but I really didn’t think it was hard at all, playing on medium difficulty. The combat is all right, the new enemies are spongey which is probably my least favourite thing about the mod, pretty standard stuff.
The biggest gimmick Blood Bath has are the weapon tweaks, pretty much every weapon plays differently and it varies between small things like doing slightly more damage or firing faster, and big things such as the complete overhaul the gluon gun has. You will definitely need these powered-up weapons for the aforementioned spongey enemies, but they are overall a ton of fun to use. The shotgun alt-fire can also be used to launch yourself over objects which is pretty nifty.
