Poll Question 296 – How do you feel about mods you have to buy?
MisterAddy brought this topic up in the July 2014 General Chat post and I feel it’s worth discussing more.
Aperture Tag was greenlit (is that right?) and released on Steam. It’s a mod, set in the Portal universe, where you have a paint gun, which you use to reach the end. I watched some of it on Maxtasy’s YouTube Channel and it looked Okay. But only Okay.

MapTap 2.5 Beta RC1 is Now Available
Update: MapTap has been replaced by Gauge.
This beta version has a few new features.
First and foremost you can use it to install AND run mods. The ability to install mods has been available since 2.3 bt you had to open Steam to run them – not any more.
Secondly, but actually just as importantly, MapTap now automatically updates older mods to run in Steampipe! Yes, that’s right. Take an older mod from PP that doesn’t have the correct gameinfo.txt format and MapTap should do it for you. No messing about with text editors and copying and pasting etc.
Of course, it might not work every time, but it’s a darn sight better than having to do it manually.

Zombie Clean Up
Author’s Notes: “The original goal of Zombie Cleanup was to create a Half-Life 2 level that uses the crossbow in a unique way.
The overall objective of the level is to kill your way through three waves of zombies using a new and improved version of the crossbow called the !fire crossbow”.
The design of the level is quite simple with four main areas: the starting alley, the rebel house, the two side alleys where the zombies come from, and the storage room.” -
Shadow of Breen
Authro’s Notes: “Shadow of Breen takes place after the events of Half Life 2: Episode 1.
A small group of rebel commandos sets out to destroy Dr. Breen’s broadcasting and propaganda facility.
The level takes place in a narrow canyon located somewhere in an eastern European forest. Play style focuses on action-based decision making with emphasis on environmental cues.
Elements of a scene such as lighting, geometry, sound, and detail draw attention and spark a player’s curiosity (even subconsciously). A central theme in this level is the player’s use of the crossbow (a typically underutilized weapon) to trigger environmental events…”
