This is a pretty good level that also looks nice too. Some exploring, some fighting and some sightseeing.
SPOILERS BELOW
The ending is a little silly with the cabin sliding down the sand and not being able to shot the helicopter is frustrating.
The only serious issue I have is with the text instructions. It took all the fun away from doing it myself. I believe the author went too far this time. I almost expected to see something like “Shot the Combine soldier”.
Anyway, but than a lot of the stuff I’ve played lately. It’s short but fairly sweet.
It’s always a welcome relief to see a new file for HL2. I love it when I go to the file page and there’s a new map or mod for HL2. Makes my day and then some.
I had some fun with this one mainly because I like to see how to exploit stuff. Maybe with any luck, I’ll come back as a game tester in my next life. Anyone not wanting to know those SPOILERS, stop reading now.
Instead of going through the correct path at the end of the pier to open the gate, I just piled up a bunch of the boxes in the map and jumped over the balcony LOL If there weren’t so many boxes, I couldn’t have done it. Once over the balcony, I beat the map a few different ways just for fun. You can throw an exploding barrel over the rail and take it to the first gate encounter that way too.
Also, from the pier, you can shoot the exploding barrel on the other side of the wall and smash it open early. Maybe a zone or just another layer of bricks would have prevented that.
Thanks much for a great lil map.
Keep ’em coming! π
I sometimes wonder if I’ve played the same map as other commenters….This was nice, but a bit short, a bit predictable, and didn’t seem to have anything new by way of layout or game-play ideas. Still, in spite of a little stuttering, not much, but a bit, it was worth the effort, and as it didn’t take especially long to play gets a PIN instead of a PIL…
I have to say I do look forward to seeing what the author comes up with next, if this is anything to go by, it could well be proper “quality.”
This isn’t right up there though, but is still better than I could do…….G’wan, give it a whirl….:)
I liked it but it was nothing really new or very interesting. It ran without errors but it was over real fast. It needed some puzzles or any other kind of a challenge. For me it was just so-so. If the author can make the next one alot longer and have more action it would be really good because he’s a good map maker.
This map was talked about on this weeks edition of Podcast17: http://www.podcast17.com/transmissions/c11225

Nothing special and being way too short, what is here is well done with sets and textures more then acceptable. It just is not long enough to develop into any thing resembling a game, being no more then a possible level 1 to something more with depth. However, there is nothing stopping you playing through for a few minutes of fun; just don’t expect to be extending your skills that far.

Gypsy Jim’s comments +1 π
excuse me, how can I fix this;
] map hsu_aftermath
CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: Map “hsu_aftermath” bsp version 20, expecting 19
map load failed: hsu_aftermath not found or invalid
] changelevel hsu_aftermath
CModelLoader::Map_IsValid: Map “hsu_aftermath” bsp version 20, expecting 19
changelevel failed: hsu_aftermath not found
or have to update sdk?
It was fun while it lasted, but as the other comments say, there isnt anything new and its way too short. It felt like playing lost coast π Really good job though
This was fun mod. Limited weapons/ammo (at least at first) made me play slightly differently than I might have otherwise. But it’s good for me to try different weapons.
When I heard the chopper I wanted an RPG, but I run just fine. π
I really like this map. It’s fun, has places to explore and has a good amount of combat. It would have got personal favourite from me if it weren’t for one issue. It looks like you can explore a lot but it’s not as much as you think. There’s a cave where the level ends and I thought I could go in and get some extra stuff or at least see some cool stuff but it’s just a dead end. Otherwise, this map is very fun. The guard building breaking the barrier towards the end was a bit ludicrous; I think the explosive barrels would blow it up or at least set it on fire, but that’s not really an issue. This map also has a good mix of zombie and Combine combat as well as indoor and outdoor environments. It looks pretty as well. I recommend this map.

Spoilers ahead. I guess by the description, the author managed to implement the idea that he started out with, as there are 3 distinct portions of the map that play differently.
First, we explore some rebel cabins on the beach that were now infested but we get to equip ourselves either way, and find a small cache that was intended to be a puzzle, judging by the seesaw. And if you’re lucky, you get to see a zombie walk through the wooden floor hehe
In the 2nd part we fight ruthless combine and feels like we’re a bit unprepared, even with the magnum. The environment is just hallway, then some random rooms with random computers and a teleport around which sadly was only there for detailing. Would’ve been nice if the sliding beach house would’ve killed some combine on the way down as well.
The final part was actually enjoyable, for some reason, even if we didn’t get to fight the chopper, felt more real to run from it by taking cover under the bridge and the houses.
The actual ending is a bland fade to black once in the cave, but overall it’s ok, though difficulty needs tweaking, such as enemy number and placement, plus most should be dropping health, and of course more health and ammo after important fights.

The intro part with the zombies was excellent and I liked the tease into the Combine base, but as soon as you’re trapped you more than likely wasted your SMG clip and the fight turns frustrating, requiring well-placed headshots with the revolver and a little bit of luck to progress further. Someone should fix that.
Later on it continues satisfingly.

This map takes place in the beach, where we need to infiltrate the base and meet up with the team. Although the design is awesome and level is not boring, fighting with Combine seems unbalanced. Yeah, there were two creative moments to deal with them, but at other times I was hiding behind boxes with 1 HP while helicopter and two Combine soldiers tried to kill me.
Overall, beautiful but unstable.

Puzzles are nice, albeit confusing. I spent some time looking for the next place to go. I like that the map gradually gave the player weapons. Combat was well paced, I loved the ravenholm-esque section. The end of the game however was a little off putting. A helicopter fight on a small bridge with one train isn’t didn’t sell the ending for me, as the map was well-paced before that. Overall a nice map compared to other maps out there.

Very good looking map. Looks lived in lots of decoration. Good placement of items and bad guys. (spoiler) Only down side is it was short and could have used a rocket launch to make it complete. Worth a play through once or twice.

Visuals look good, combat is quite easy. With tons of combine soldiers, I barely had any trouble killing all of them, the combine elites are the only challenging ones. I was hoping the helicopter part is a boss but turns out no. Youβre forced to flee.
