Correct name of this one is…
Accidental Life – demo version
This is a single map.
Unfortunately there is no readme file,
port2a BSP is dated March 28, 2002
port2c BSP is dated September 5, 2001
I’m not going to try and figure this one out
Thanks for the information, I have updated the title.
Update file author and release date
the 2c file is the one reviewed at 10/4.
The author is actually well known with D.O.D. mapping he firstly release several good duke maps. He had a website which is sadly down…
Uh what about 2b?
Well I played it and I can’t really give an explanation for it. There is pretty much no point to it and it is very confusing. 2c doesn’t even have a place to go really. It just random scripting. Its…uhhh…pretty bad. Not going to lie.
Good Question. I suppose it was just not to b!
When I contacted the author when this was release the 2c version was the last one released (2b being a beta if a remember right) the author switch after to dod and decided to release what he did so far but will propably never finish it
Well uhm, it started interesting with some funny scripts but then the map crashed in the vent shaft, can’t help it.
It really seems it’s a demo or very unfinished map, as there are unreachable areas (I didn’t noclip) for example a lil chamber with a security card (which maybe is needed later!?)
Pro’s:
-Funny scripts
-Weapon + HEV at start
-Decent level design
-Unexpected goodies in the crates
Con’s:
-Looking very unfinshed
-Map crashes at almost reaching the end of a ventilation shaft
-Weird gameplay
-No story, puzzles
-Short playtime
Preview releases can either blatantly rip a good section from the full release (thus spoiling a set-piece in advance) or can end up not “previewing” the full release to a favorable extent. This demo of Accidental Life, however, does neither. The section it takes from won’t spoil any future fun to be had, plus it does a commendable job of previewing what’s to come.
According to the author, this demo shows off a mid-slice from Accidental Life (neither the beginning or the end). Using a mid-slice is best because a player is dropped right into the adventure, immediately discounting any preconceptions. This presentation is immediately apparent in an entertaining scripted sequence comprising the first several seconds of gameplay. The entertainment doesn’t stop there, however; a few more scripted sequences and triggers trip up the ambience in a style not unlike natural Half-Life. Combat is very minimal with 3 aliens, however, but for a simple demo it doesn’t need to be extensive.
Level design is of the excellent variety. Each area is nicely detailed and furnished well with a variety of objects and machinery that make for some interesting sequences and triggers. The story tells of a computer system gone mad (much like 2001’s HAL or System Shock’s SHODAN), and in this light all the sequences and triggers make sense instead of being confusing. Better be careful around machinery! The basic flow works well too, all except for a small “puzzle” that’s possible to easily overlook (a light panel giving off sparks).
For a single map this demo of Accidental Life is awfully tantalizing with its focused design, neat construction, and nice array of scripts. Here’s hoping the full release is just as good throughout.

Despite the Ten Four Reviews account referring to a full release I wasn’t able to find it so I’m going to assume it wasn’t publically released, so this will be the only release that exists. The mod has nice scripted sequences and has some interesting brush work, but overall I found it frustrating due to death traps and bugs. This will probably take about 5 mins, 10 minutes tops but there’s still better short maps out there.

The most interesting part is the ceiling laser which targets you wherever you are in the room. The switch with pass card seems to be the end of the level since it doesn’t open any door anywhere.
