Here’s a collection of a handful of maps from longtime RTSL member (and Ville mapper!) ihonnyboy (Abraham Lee). It’s a bit of a hodgepodge of maps in various states, including some dev textures – and at least one you might recognize from an old mapping challenge. But they are all playable and worth a look, if not perfectly balanced. Enjoy!
Welcome to Abe’s Spicy Mappack Platter!
This is a collection of maps and assets I worked on many moons ago, and have finally polished for release… and by polished for release I mean I made it so you can go from begining to end. But just because they CAN be beaten doesn’t mean they SHOULD. I like to play these on HARD difficulty, but it is not recommended.
I’ve got 5 dishes lined up for you (All maps are in various levels of development and polish).

thanks 1st map played -really enjoyed house arena detailed clever combat enviroment
Lots of good puzzles and battle scenes. You really know what’s gonna happen, what you need to do and so on. Easy to spot on/game design. I specially loved the second map. One thing I disliked tho was the amount of action paced when the APC started to show up and bombard the building. I can’t remember if there was also a ship or not, but still, there was too much stuff happening, rockets, bullets, explosions, everything you can imagine. I don’t know how to explain this better, but perhaps going low with the amount of enemies doing pressure over you in that area would sort this issue.
Overall, nice pack of maps!

After what seems like a very long time of little activity with HL maps/mods, out of the blue come two Personal Favorites, back to back, starting with Southernmost Combine and then Brave Brain repeated, and now this!
I only recall Bridgehead from the past, and loved it then. Of the five maps, I rated three of them 10/10 and another 9/10, which is to say the least for me, unusually high. Lots of action, sometimes an overload of it and confusion, but by sticking to it eventually I completed all of them. There are a few difficult puzzles, I’m tempted to post some spoilers, but again if you stick to it and look everywhere, it makes sense.
I’m just hoping this bonanza of maps lately somehow continues! 😀

I’d agree, Bridgehead was the best from my point of view, not so much for the manic action as such, but for how nice it looked, hell I’d live there.
Wow! Best work that I have seen on this site in a long time!!!!
Bonus: Works on Linux without all of those missing textures!
Nice maps!
Common
– I love the change of some gun models and enemy voices.
1st map
– Short but fun arena map!
– The visual of the map is beautiful.
2nd map
– Well-designed map! There are lots of combats, events and path puzzles, and they are mixed very well.
– Since the map is pretty long, I wish there is some kind of ‘ending scene’.
3rd map
– Nice arena map
4th map
– Is the concept ‘F.E.A.R-like combat’? I like the concept!
5th map
– I didn’t play this map until ending, anyway I think this is a fun map.

Ok, so the first map was really really cool. Bunkering down in a house having to cover up the doorways with the furniture as the combine start shooting through the windows is so cool.
I didn’t really play the second map as it didn’t really vibe with me
The third map was also really cool and was pretty similar to the first map. looked really nice and the action set pieces were really cool
The FEAR-Like combat was honestly well designed and very fun to play in. Was very short and i thought that the layout of the map made for some big brain moves.
Overall a very cool mod and i also like the addition of the custom weapon models.

I played all the maps and I found them all good but especially the last map is really long, I gave the others 3 hours likewise but it was productive thx

A nice buffet of well crafted sequences. The spectacle in the later half of the second map was very entertaining and the level design overall was very tight and the environments realized (at least the parts that were finished were :P.) I really enjoyed the somewhat open ended objectives in the fifth map, I appreciated the ability to do the objectives in whichever order you saw fit. That open-ended yet tight gameplay is something I think would be at home in a potential main-line sequel.

House Arena – ok I guess. Got way too hung up on shooting down the troop carrier until I realized I was progressing through enemy waves, rather than trying to turn off infinite enemy spawns.
Hostile Takeover – really liked the fast zombie section. Mixed in Combine to keep them busy as I traverse upward. A really great way to discourage camping and encourage progression. The lighting was great; zombie shadows overhead as they climb their pipes was downright menacing. This is what the Source engine was built for.
Bridgehead – I’m a huge sucker for coastal towns. Ambient soundscapes were on point, intriguing building layouts, and that classic blue-grey Source vibe that hits so well. Final sequence was intense. Excellent combat arenas, although the final copter fight would’ve been more fun if the infinite rocket crates were introduced earlier as you’re walking through the town. Don’t have to give me the RPG yet, but at least let me know there’s an upcoming fight and this is where you want to go to refuel, because there’s nothing fun about getting peppered alive running in circles looking for ammo.
FEAR Combat – this one was just okay. Close quarters combat got tiresome, but the shotgun really is a lot of fun and it’s perfect for this map.
Disgraced – Some really good ideas for expansive, immersive environments. Shame it’s unfinished. I quite enjoyed the pacing on that Strider fight. Forces the player to explore under duress, but didn’t feel annoying or unfair, despite waves of enemies and a Strider you can’t yet kill. However, there was plenty of cover as you traverse a unique village-like environment within a city. Amazing how it has a sense of forward progression even when locked in an arena. Really makes you work for that RPG. Difficulty feels like HL1. Shotty suddenly isn’t so OP. I got a lot of mileage out of this one for how much map there is.
Overall a solid collection. Obviously lacks polish in some areas, but our boy Abe clearly knows how to design a level. Gameplay first and foremost, and I can appreciate that in a sea of pretty bad mods. You know, mods that look great, but let you down. Pretty bad mods.
