Josh has been an avid Half-Life fan since about last year. Making his discovery of the series after buying The Orange Box (solely for Portal), and over the period of about 4 months completing Half-Life 2, he has been been hooked on anything to do with it ever since. He enjoys nothing more than complaining about things such as the government and queuing, being a grammar policeman, and reading, as well as computering when he has time between periods of complaining. When on the computer, he is an administrator of the Combine OverWiki, a moderator and weekly writer for a game called Atmosphir, and is interested in all things Internet and Half-Life related.
Brandon “Grey Acumen” is 26 and can’t remember a time before video games; his earliest memories those of playing Legend of Zelda on the NES. He has just reached his 3rd year of Steam gaming, first signing up on Jan 9th 2008 for Portal: First Slice, but it would be another year before he finally purchased and played through Half Life and Orange Box. He has since played over a hundred mods, averaging roughly one per week since he started. His current passion is making suggestions for Minecraft, which can be found on minecraftforums.net (Search for “Aether” or “Extended 2×2 Grid Crafting”)
Hmm, consider me now interested in playing a part in this.
You’ve got my email from BTC and my Steam account. Let me know.
Oh, and the Flak Cannon….it was beautiful *tear runs down face*.
Will this go on Itunes, and if so, under what name.
No, I don’t currently work with iTunes.
My voice sounds that nasal over microphone?
We both sound pretty nasal over the microphone, at least compared to what we sound like in person. I should probably break down and get a proper USB microphone if I’m going to keep doing these things. I was using the mic that was built into my computer, which probably contributed a bit.
Will there be an RSS feed for the podcast? I believe having the mp3 embedded in the post as an enclosure would work fine, with the feed for the “podcast” category becoming the podcast feed.
Darn, wish I coulda joined. Time I was on there was tons o” fun. But, all good things in time. Nice discussion and hope to see more in the future.
Great listen, keep ’em coming.
I always assumed “manhack arcade” was just a retrofitted shopping arcade.
Sounds alot like that film with Robin Williams in it, I think it was called “Toys” or something similar.
Game design and expectations, in the HL universe. Pretty nice.
I like how you guys (Phillip, William and Stephanie) support each other.
There seems so much we could talk about, hopefully we have plenty of interesting discussions ahead of us. William and I always help each other if we can and Stephanie is great.
Sounded great guys, keep up the good work! Looking forward to hearing how it develops!
Glad you liked it.
There actually is a AI accelerator card, http://www.aiseek.com/intia.htm
Well Done Gentlemen, thoroughly enjoyed it especially the “games with a conscience ” and “you are what you eat”. my take on “conscience” would be a reward of health, ammo or special weapon if you preformed something but if you didn’t it wouldn’t have any effect on the actual game or objective. The discussion on food and injuries etc might have a negative effect for some players if it was to be used as it might slow the gameplay/gameflow down somewhat and it would be up to the authors/modders to get that part right.
again a great podcast, gave me the feeling of sitting around the pub tossing back a few pints of Guiness and listening to the boys.
Chiming in to say I really enjoyed listening to this. Please do continue! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it.
Just listening to this now. Nice idea for a podcast! And it’s an interesting discussion, it’s fun to hear perspectives from new-ish Half-Life players.
So if you ever want perspective from an old-time Half-Lifer just let me know. 🙂
I do recommend that you look into getting this into iTunes, it’s a good way to distribute it and from the listener’s perspective, it’s a lot easier to keep track of podcasts on iTunes compared to visiting a site end downloading the mp3 for each episode.
Glad you liked it. I should point out that the fact both guests were newish HL players was pure coincidence, not planned. We’ll have a variety of experiences on the show. You should have received an email by now about appearing on the show.
