Over 7 years old but still kinda fun.

A simple “maze” that is very similar to Cube.

Can you find your way out?

And if you do, was it worth it?

  1. Phillip says Maybe

I was looking forward to this because it’s nice to have new HL1 maps to play, even if they are more than 7 years old. The problem here though is that it’s more of an experiment than a proper “Run Think Shoot Live” classic HL1 map.

There are a couple of nice touches and a couple of silly ones too.

You may enjoy it if you like logic-style puzzles and remembering where you have been and what each doors leads to/does.

7 years ago I would have probably been more excited. What can I say? 7 years dulls an man’s appetite for experiments.

  2. Maybe?

Interesting. Was hoping for a few more puzzles, but alright if your looking for a quick game as there isn’t too much to it.

The spinning room gave me a bit of a headache though.

Well as the tag says this is only for real fans!, that’s for sure, this map was catalogued for me into the “funky-strange” mods, so is interesting if u like to try those kind of “high” strange dreams that this mr. Freeman use to have in some mods….

  4. Maybe?

From the name I could already imagine that there would be a reference to Muse’s album of the same name, and there is, which I really like.

    Anyway, on to the review.

This map isn’t so bad. I remember watching a trailer for a Fallout 3 mod called Cube that had the same concept and I thought that it’s pretty cool. I like how strange the mapping is, however it’s not really perfect. There are a lot of annoying things here and there, like traps, cheap enemy placement etc. These really bothered me and I wish something was done about them. Apart from that, the new textures are pretty nice and I can at least say that the map is creative.

One thing I have to mention is that this map is not for everyone. If you’re more into classic HL1 scenarios, like gruntfests, escape-from-BM etc then you’re definitely not gonna like this one.

Overall, this map is not for everyone. Some will like it, some won’t. But even besides that, this map isn’t completely perfect.
