- Copy chung_camptrip.bsp into your Half-Life 2: Episode Two Maps folder.
- Launch Half-Life 2: Episode Two
- Open the console and type map chung_camptrip.
- Press enter/return or click the Submit button.
- Play and Enjoy.
The Quest Objective Hotkey allows you to view the current quest objective at any time by pressing ‘q’. I did not want to overwrite any personal settings, so I left this hotkey as an optional feature that you will have to manually activate.
1. Access the console (with the tilde ‘~’ key)
2. Open the map, “map chung_camptrip”
3. Type the following (or copy/paste):
bind q “ent_fire hud_counter getvalue”
4. Hit enter. Close the console.
5. Test it out by pressing q.
6. To undo this keybind, simply access the console again and type:
unbind q

It’s clear when you play this that the author has taken a lot of time and trouble to get it right. Whilst I hate screen text (Porbably because I am a voice actor!) it works well here. Another thing I hate is RPG, so the author was fighting me all the way with this one but as you can see from my Recommendation Images, she managed to overcome my dislikes.
That’s not to say it’s perfect because as a designer if you choose a certain style of gameplay then no matter how good the implementation you won’t please everybody.
The level design is excellent and allows the user some time to explore before thjey are forced to do everybody’s bidding and there is the problem for me – I didn’t feel in control. I am used to playing GF who makes his own decisions. Here I am just a puppet, abate, a cool, good-looking and incredibly accurate with a crossbow, but a puppet nevertheless.
Definitely a keeper and probably a Hall Of Fame entry for 2009. Any puppet lovers out there?
Really fun. This one is a little different then the others. You actually get to resue a lady from the bad guys. It’s not real big on the fighting and could have used a little more of a challenge, in fact you may want to play this on hard level first as I wasn’t killed one time on normal setting. Definetly worth downloading.
Short but (fairly) sweet, but I’m with Phillip in that I’m not the biggest fan of text driven mods, and it did sort of take the edge off it a bit. Seeing as how it seems to be another college project I doubt there’ll be a follow up, (I hope there is though) but I was left wanting more….which is usually a good sign….
Going to play it again, and see if I can actually find the crossbow, which I missed yesterday……
check the big building-The only weapons I found was the crossbow and the AK -more guns and targets would have been nice for sure.
As a long time “lurker” to your site Phillip – I was long ago overdue to contribute anything to your well hosted/ presented site…………….this is a short and sweet, well thought out map in my opinion. Like you, I’m not a fan of text on the screen, but hey – not everyone has the vocal class of an Anthony Hopkins!
woja, I’m glad you have made the transition from lurker to non-lurker AKA commenter ( You can tell your friends you have been delurked at PP!). I know what you mean about the voice acting though, it just seems such a shame in this case.

It was kind of entertaining until the “defend the stupid NPC” part showed up. After the eight time of Elena not taking cover and being killed by yet another group of Combine soldiers who can magically teleport to rooftops, I asked myself “Am I enjoying this?”. The answer was clearly NO and that’s where I left it. I was probably near the end and the only thing I might be missing is another game_text saying “thank you for saving me”. Really not worth all the reloading.
It’s obvious I dislike the “protect the NPC” gameplay, but I’m sure some people love it. In any case it has to be done right. In this map I kept finding situations in which the npc would always die. You had enemies inside the cathedral and outside the cathedral: If you ventured more inside to fight them, the ones still outside would open the exterior side doors and kill the NPC without you having any options to prevent that.
I found other things a bit of a bother too, like a fenced door with a breakable lock which wouldn’t open after the lock was broken (as is the norm in HL2 maps).
The level design was hit and miss. Some interiors looked pretty good (both in architecture, lighting and textures) but some of the street areas were unpleasant to look at and badly designed in comparison. The layout can be considered quite good, as it really transmits a sense of place and makes you think more missions could take place there.
My only real problem was the “puppet” issue. It was a little light on combat, but the setting was top notch. Once I beat a few NPCs in the head with the crowbar, I was ready to tackle the next quest. 🙂
If some objects and reflections look wierd for you in this map, you should bring down the console and type “buildcubemaps” and then wait for a few minutes. The map should restart itself and look better! Start it again one more time if you want to get rid of the Node Graph error also.
Please authors, build your cubemaps!

I really liked this map. It was inventive and well put together. I was compelled to press onwards the whole time, and I really felt I knew what I was trying to do. I never felt lost or confused. I thought the direction of the gameplay was handled well.
Some areas look very good but there is room for improvement in some other parts. Overall, not bad looking.
I really liked the theme of the map and feeling of being part of the revolt. The puzzles were well designed with excellent visual cues which made them genuine fun.
It’s a pity there is no voice acting, but the text serves well enough in this case. I liked the fact that even the non-important npcs would provide reminders on what you are supposed to be doing. For the most part, the scripting struck me as being nice and tight.
The combat was easy, but it wasn’t the point of the map. If you’re looking for some hardcore shooting action, then you probably should look elsewhere.
Defending the girl seemed to play out fine for me and she didn’t die or do anything too unexpected. I will play it again and see what happens when I defend her a bit less next time, just for fun!
This is only a short litte story, but I enjoyed almost everything about it, and so I would love to see more from this author!

Right off the Bat, I do not like screen text, nor do I like “defend the NPC” ( Elena ) which she doesn’t know how to take cover and stands out in the open like a Big “O” Dumb, Dumb ! LOL ! ( No help from her ) after about 7or 8 attempt’s it’s very clear, I’m bored “BIG TIME” , other than that, the map is detailed pretty good. OH, at the beginning, ( starting point ) I could not walk away from the guy at the beach front ( stuck at spawning point ) had to use Noclip to get away from the Dumb fool to continue. Also, white reflection was present through out the game ( machine gun’s and some door’s were shiny white) but didn’t really bother me that much , It was a “OK” very short MOD , but not really my liking. Camp Trip, Uuum, it’s a trip alright…
J-Man, I think being stuck at the beginning was something intentional, not an error. As for the white reflections, do what Chris Fox suggested. Type buildcubemaps in the console and reload the map.
I don’t know about that Kasperg, I could not do anything after I was given instructions. maybe you know something about this game that I don’t know, anyway, it was not a big deal as Noclip came in handy with that prob. As for the “white glare” well, that was not a prob. either.. as far as replaying the game, it’s a little too late ( it’s in the trash bin )
I’m moving on to play other EP 2 MOD’s, but thanks Kasperg for the Info..

Not my type of game, I’m not keen on ‘talk to some one, then do this” routines. However, its clear lots of good work went into this one. Overall it’s short on action but high on interaction.
I just downloaded this, and I really want to play it as it seems good based on the reviews, but I can’t seem to get it to work. I start Episode 2, bring down the console, type “chung_camptrip” and it just says “unknown command: chung_camptrip”. Did I put the file in the wrong place? Because I don’t have a Half life 2: Episode 2 Maps folder, so I put chung_camptrip.bsp in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\myusername\half-life 2 episode two\ep2\maps. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

If you hate side-quests, don’t play this, though they are pretty short and easy. Elena did die on me two or three times, though, which was annoying.
I think the title is misleading–unless Gordon was on a boat to go on a camping trip and ended up here?

This is a well-made map, but it’s not something I liked well enough to say “you have to play it”, which is what I use PIL and PIN recommends for.
I liked this little map. while voice acting is always far better than on screen text it was ok. This had a story, clear objectives and a completion. although it was pretty easy to accomplish it was well worth the play. I liked the concept of having to complete a task before being able to proceed. for the small size and gameplay it was put together pretty well
This is pretty cool, I love how there’s so much storytelling in such a small setting (within the HL universe, too). The quests are interesting, and I like how there are multiple ways to solve them. The combat is alright too, but I did not like escorting Elena. Through the first two areas it’s fine, but then she goes outside and just stands there taking bullets. I also didn’t have too much ammo at the time, but eventually I made it through. It’s a great map and I recommend you play it.

I quite liked this and it turned out better than I first imagined. However, it’s really laggy for me and my old’ish computer plus I also had bright white objects. Like doors, guns, tools, and so on… Running through the script was kinda fun if a bit too basic. It was great picking off the soldiers using the crossbow and following the girl turned out to be easier than I’ve experienced in other games. Which is a relief as these kinda missions usually bug the heck outta me!
Not a bad map at all. Worth a play once, I quite enjoyed it.
