About

Author’s Note:
“This mod will let us into a horroristic world in the Andrew Parker asylum and we will live through (or not) in the view of a mental patient. The mod’s primal object is not the insane bloodbath. The real object is to escape from the huge building which holds a lot of secrets.”

  1. Play It Later

A bit short but otherwise great mod – well worth trying.

its like afraid of monsters but its like a remake of afraid of monsters 2 director cut

    Maybe?

Good effect, but annoying locked many door and puzzles…

  3. Bret Michaels

Approximately how much longer is this finished mod compared to the Mistake demo (the second one)?

  4. Play It Now!

I’m not sure its longer although it may be a little longer.I think some of the maps were redone and the whole thing cleaned up.I also don’t think its as dark as the first one.Still fun to play if you like this type of style.

  5. Play It Now!

Still pretty damn short, but I had fun with it. Interesting end battle.

    Play It Now!

This played much better that the last one, and a bit longer! Now that I have my new Logitech gamming keyboard with lighted keys, this was great to play in the dark! Nice one for Holloween!! 🙂

    Maybe?

I founds this mod very limited in its gameplay, set designs and content, it’s very one dimensional with little action consisting only of a few not so well remodeled zombies.
In the main this is a puzzle orientated mod but without the mind-blowing puzzle routines of say The Trap or Prison. Instead we have fairly logical puzzles that normally one solves first of second attempt, which is the type I like. I can’t imagine that this mod will fully satisfy any group of gamers, it’s not scary enough, it’s has no combat, it wont challenge the puzzle lovers and has nothing new of interest. Best that I can say is that if you looking for 20 minutes of un-taxing gameplay to wind down the day, then this may fit the bill. it’s also bug free which is a bit of a bonus these days.

    Play It Now!

In my opinion, much efford has been put in this mod. Even if it’s quite short, I like the usage of the features which the Paranoia-“Engine” offers: Bumpmaps detail-textures, flashlight and other graphic-effects are adding a lot atmosphere…

    Play It Later

I enjoyed playeing this one like the first one that has, except the content and the ambiance, a totally different layout as the first one.
it’s really something different through it’s ambiance, content and features not always evident to find the puzzle but it add certainly something to the gameplay. It’s not perfect but it’s unique so you should really try it 😉

I can’t run this, I get a “the selected video mode is not supported by your video card” error

  11. Anonymous

ok, finally got it to run, by switching to direct3D mode.

I’m stuck in the doctor’s office area. I just killed the 2 headed freak & read the note on the doctor’s desk, but I don’t know what to do next, all the friggin” doors are locked.

  12. Gilfrarry

As you exit the doctor’s office through the double doors, directly in front of you at the end of the hall is a rusty door. Next to the rusty door is a blue cabinet with a pipe ascending from it partway to a slight ledge below a ventilation shaft.

what a super creepy mod, I just aint doing the final battle right. but have pulled out. it took a while to get use to the map changes. I hope they make something else, better story but just as creepy. thanks.

I just tried to download this file and I got a trojan warning both from my download manager and PC tools antivirus. Sad….

    Play It Now!

pretty cool mod (100% like silent hill)… if you like horror you definetly shall play it…
in my opinion, Afraid of Monsters is more scary and great than this one

  16. Think Twice

More like a total conversion (TC) than a HL mod, this looks similar to “Afraid of monsters” mod, but since I never really liked such (!) horrorstyle my opinion is again almost devastating.
I do like the horrorgenre for movies and games, but not such things like “The Grudge” or someting, I do prefer stuff like “Resident Evil”, “SAW”, “Halloween”.
But this here hmm.. is like a mix of “Grudge”, “Shutter Island” and yeah… “Aom”

Oh by the way, I didn’t finish it, but accordingly to the screenshots above here I was very close to do so, but unfortunately my HL was screwed up and so I did delete all mods when reinstalling HL…

    Pro’s:
-Many new textures, models, sounds etc.
    -Oppressive atmosphere
    -Sudden and surprising scripts

    Con’s:
-Way too dark for my taste, if only the flashlight radius would be normal HL size
    -Sort of monotonic colors
-Less combat, weapons, action at all – just creepy atmosphere

  17. Maybe?

Silent Hill, this is the impression I had the whole game!!

    The major cons:
Can’t move any objects to solve puzzles; would be less frustrating
    music that’s too loud
    Jumps are too touchy

the mapping is good, but the story is nothing special. The guns lack power & of course the graphics are really dated.

  18. Hec

A totally must play rarely known horror mod for HL1.

  19. Played through this with no known problems on WON version, can’t pass the very first jumping trial (after picking up first set of keys) on Steam version 🙁 …

    1. Well, this problem is definitely not a engine glitch, but a really weird jump – just crouch at the end of it and you will be good to go …

    Personal Favourite

Well, I just replayed this because I know that the developer of this mod, recently ended his own indie horror game called Remorse: The List. So let me be clear that I just find it amazing that an old mod HL1 author just follows his dreams and eventually manages to launch his own horror game it is something really great to see.

So that is why I am replaying several works in his portfolio. Because my plan was to play both mistake mods, then Grey and finally I’ll buy and play Remorse: The List, so hope to complete the whole set by this Halloween eve.

Here in Mistake, I think we found a truly HL horror modification that is kind of “loyal” to the HL1 game, I mean, we have lots of assets and textures from the original HL1 game which transforms into this little but neat horror mod. So that is particularly awesome.

The plot is quite confusing, and the aim is simple, just to escape the mental hospital you are locked in… The end comes sudden but if you felt the mod was quite incomplete at least in the story part, then ply the compliment to get more context about it, which is Mistake minus 1, and there You will find a more refined mod that fills many gaps unexplained in this one.

A quick note is that I see here in RTSL that they mislead the versions of this mod, the one I am reviewing here is about the original “Mistake” project, which is closest to the original HL1 textures and assets, Mistake minus one, or “Mistake -1”, is the one that Phillip placed in the screenshots. Mistake minus one is done with many new textures and assets of the Paranoia mod.

For me, this is a PF because it is a horror HL1 classic.

  21. Personal Favourite

This is a great total conversion mod

The first parts is you solving puzzles and later enemies start to show up

It’s very slow paced in terms of combat but the boss fight in the end was great.

Highly recommend it if you like horror mods.
