Author’s Notes: “This is a single player Half Life 2 mod, set entirely outside of City 17. It features6 levels of action, exploring a range of locations (from an underground facility to fighting alongside the Combine on an alien world to floating colour-coordinated cubes), non-linear level progression (you start near a nexus of gateways, and may choose the order in which to progress through the levels), a musical score (a total of 8 tracks), some new abstract textures and challenging gameplay. This mod is meant for those who have already completed Half Life 2”

This mod is the kind of mod that some people will love and some people will hate. I suppose I fall into the second category and wouldn’t have finished it if it wasn’t for feeling I should.
There is no story, although it does have a starting scenario – “You have been captured by the Combine”. Clearly you must escape and kill whatever stands in your way.
The design consists of a central nexus that has four Gateways that lead to themed sections. The level design is a mix of textures and shapes and colours and craziness. There’s no logic to the layout and any resemblance to the Half-Life story is lost immediately.
If you can suspend belief and just focus on the gameplay you may enjoy it. The overall idea is sound but the author’s vision is just a little too free-form for my liking.
The placement of groups of enemies in confined places, along with plenty of grenades and other types of ammo is a little tiring. At the end of each section the player seems to be rewarded with a powerful weapon that they can take onto the next level. There is probably a good order to complete the levels based on collection of these weapons but I never took too much notice and therefore can’t recommend one.
The later levels become a little stupid with large arenas, tens of enemies and disappearing floors. I played on easy and it took my approximately 90 minutes to complete. There could have been secrets but I never found any.
This is the first mod where Metrocops can be found underwater and shooting at you.
I gave it a Consider It because for players who just want to have some action and not worry abut the details then this could be fun but for players who enjoy mods that have engrossing stories, believable settings and attention to detail then I would suggest you avoid it.
Thanks for the heads up with your review, Phillip. Having established the mindset to play it, I found it really enjoyable.
I kind of liked the arcade style it presented. Towards the end it got a little tiring with constant action and little down time. It really kept you guessing. The large number of enemies bogged down my system a bit at certain places. Most of the worlds were very interesting. The color cube one was cool to look at but not very fun to play, probobly best played first.
As long as your efficient at clearing large amounts of enemies in small spaces you might want to give it a try.
a totally agree with you review phillip when I play this one (when it came out) I had a correct enjoyment but got frustrated at the end, the exploring was certianly a little too mazy but combats and searching was descent
I’ve only managed the one map, the one with the Antlion Guards & helicopter, when I got back to the gateway area and attempted the second (well it was to me) “gate” it simply crashed out to the desktop….Magic, that hasn’t happened since I tried spawning combines in the Limbus Island map…oops!
I enjoyed the bit I managed though & am going to give it another go…..
Apologies for the double post, but I think from the screen shots that the one map I still can’t access is the Cube one…am I the only one stuck in trying to go through that particular gate?
I did get an error message unpacking the RAR file, but didn’t really understand the contents of it, I wonder if I should try again?
The other maps all played out fine though…..
wow, this is one of my favorite mods ! thanks for it!
Hmkay, at the risk of sounding like a complete plonker..I tried DL-ing the whole shebang from the second link, on the basis that I couldn’t play one of the maps, (the Cube one) (Filecloud) and it so crashed again and again…
The old “Memory could not be read” thing…Then…I cut & pasted the “Cube” map from the second version (Filecloud) to the 1st (Filefront) and tried yet again..and it worked….I wonder if any of you experts have any light to shine on that?
Surely both downloads are the same? But they can’t be…..Aaargh, confused….
Good mod though!
Just a bad download I assume.I allways use filefront as cloud is slow as molasses
i’m sorry, but I too belong to the second group,. the ones that hate this kind of mods, well, hate is a strong word, lets say it has not my preferences!
i find it boring to look at, much to empty and blokcy all. it has a HL1 look I think, and further more I like a bit of story and change in surroundings, and this was just enemie after enemie after enemie, not my kind of thing, but, when you like these kind of maps, then it will be fun I guess.
leon
lots of fun and unique ideas. I really enjoyed this.
Wow! This is one of the biggest slaughter house mods I’ve played. The killing is non stop. I couldn’t beat this thing even on easy mode. I had to throw it into God mode a few times to make it through the hordes of enemies. In this, everything that you have shot at in all the other mods is in here and they are all thrown in at the same time in one spot on a rooftop. I managed to take out all the antlions and combine just to have 2 giant antlions spawn and kick me off the roof!-This is a tough battle in this this mod and I would run it on easy top start with and go from there.
The maps are well done and the colors remined me of some early daze in San Francisco. Very pyschedelic. I think the author is really into the day glo colors and wild shapes and different dimensions. I liked the map designs but think the fighting should be a little easier. Too many times I was completely overwhelmed, like 20-1. If the sides are a little more even it makes it more realistic and beleivable. Other then that , real good work.
I was sorely tempted to give this mod a one word review: asenine!
That would have been a good review, but I’ll add a few more words for good measure: claustrophobic, sadistic and senseless also help round out my feelings for this experience. This was the Half-Life version of shooting fish in a barrel (with you in the barrel too) along with a little pulling the wings off of flies thrown in for good measure.
There were more than a few clever ideas here, and this just might be the best arena mod ever designed, but if I could tell me from two hours ago to steer clear, I would. “Don’t even think about it, two-hours-ago-me!”
(In all fairness, this mod is quite an accomplishment, and could be exactly what the creator(s) wanted. It’s just not for me. Really not for me.)
I played this after Tomorrows, I guess I should have done this one first. Either way… I had so much fun playing this very short, very silly, VERY SHOOTER mod. I was giggling and grinning the whole time I was gunning my way through each level.
Once more, I did have to godmode to finish the game, but I didn’t even care. It was awesome. When left to their own, enemies will fight one another, so I used that to my advantage.
And, amazingly fun level design. I loved the Cube. I think each was unique and plenty of mindless gun-and-… gun some more. 😀
Great music, hardly any plot, I can live with that. I don’t think there is anything I can say other than maybe somehow if you don’t want us all godmoded at the end, … lighten it up in damage. But still, I was having a ball. In fact I *survived the penultimate confrontation with the Combine Energy Balls* without godmode on… and I was AMAZED. in fact… survived with a 100 Health / 70 suit. 😀
Five words:
Shoot, shoot, shoot, shoot, SHOOT!
I completely enjoyed this mod, yes you need to forget any HL storyline or real objectives but for a change of pace this is a good one. It is as others have stated just a shoot em up but it has every enemy known to HL. I too had to resort to GOD mode the first 2 times thru but on my third go around I knew what to expect and played it a little differently and had alot of fun. Again for just a different play type I recommend giving this a shot. its very well made and put together.
Hi Phillip, just checking out this mod was from the author who did the GFT, so I drop in here, but I see the download links are completely dead, so could you provide the download please??, I want to check mod.
Many thanks, hope the steam updates havet finished with it!! cross fingers…
I’ll get a download link up soon.
Ok many Thanks Phillip!
Ok. First I have to say that I enjoy this kind of mods, they are funky free and a good distraction from the old classic layout of modding which tries to be serious.
With that in mind, i’d say I enjoy this kind of maps. Now, if I compare this to the GFT release I obviously say The Great Forever Tomorrow, is a huge qualitative jump from this first work.
The progress linear arena style is fun and entretaining, also the psychodelic textures and music is cool, it just feels as something nice and different, and accept it: this is a nice arena funky mod, conssidering many arena mods just sucks, this is nice.
I wonder why Kiwi, sttoped doing maps and mods, personally i’d love another funky release, maybe TGFT2 would be great, I hope he release something in the future.
Overall this is a nice relaxing different mod which I recommend to play especially if you are tired of the serious classic HL mods.

Interesting abstract mappack. The only story it gives you is “You’ve been captured by the Combine”, simply because that’s all the story it can give you. Like I said before, it’s very abstract. There are no puzzles, it’s purely an action mod. The three most memorable levels in my opinion were “cube”, “color” and “alien”. Cube is basically a giant Rubik’s Cube. You climb a ladder and go on outlines of it, pressing buttons to open new pathways and fighting various enemies. While on the subject of enemies, that’s the only thing I didn’t like about it. The enemy placement is pretty lazy, with just clusters of Combine and a few zombies here and there. Anyway, there’s a huge battle on top of the Rubik’s Cube then the level ends. Color is the most abstract of all the maps, having, as the name suggests, many vibrant colors. If I’m remembering the right level, it also has some cool mounted gun shootouts. Alien, my favourite level, seems a lot like an HL1 Xen level. It has a lot of antlions in it and has both wide open spaces (Xen style) and cramped ones (Interloper style). You even fight alongside some Combine at one point, strange considering they just captured you, even stranger considering that immediately afterwards there’s some Combine turrets that try to kill you. Without spoiling anything, the ending makes no sense. If you want to shoot stuff without having to solve puzzles, I would certainly recommend this.
