It’s quite a short map but there are some nice touches. I’ll probably play it again to see if I missed anything. I particularly liked the stained glass window.
Negative Points
– An abrupt end.
– No enough combat for the area.
– Breaks the HL storyline.
Positive Points
– Nice use of physics puzzle.
– Bright and easy to play.
Summary
This is an enjoyable map and I was certainly disappointed when it ended. I hope he makes more maps.
5 Words Or Less Review
Gordon’s Dead! Long Live Lamont.
Wow, talk about an abrupt ending.
Anyway, quite good and fun map. Nice scripted sequences, good level design, a bit dry on the combat side though (although cool final battle). Story was… well, not much.
Note: That specular image of Freeman where you first start is from the leaked version of HL2.
I thought it was from an early tech demo…
This was a short one!! 🙁 Just getting a good battle going, and “the end” just when I thought I was going to get some driving in!
Defenetly too short but enjoyable experience with short puzzle good architecture and enjoyable fights
not bad, I went and shot the plug out without getting the rpg, then I just crowbared everyone to death.
I thought the ending was amusing, No “Too be continued” or “the end”, It just exits when you least expect it. If it wasn’t such a short map it would have anoyed me though…
Nice textures and set design which had a quality feel to it. Good build up to the completion of what can only be considered has chapter 1 of something. I hope we get more chapters, this authors has talent. However, I don’t think any mod or map no matter what should be released with such an unstructured ending.
In an attempt to find some mods for reviewing on the Supa Comix website I came across this map/mod called “The Suit”.
I downloaded it and opened the .rar file. In it was the map, a readme file and some kind of extensive manual for the modification. Now I had a quick flick through this but didn’t actually come across any information on how to install the map. This isn’t a problem for me but for someone who doesn’t know this could be intimidating.
Anywho I fired up this map and got playing. The map is set sometime after Half Life 2: Episode 3, and involves Gordon Freeman being dead. The one problem is that if you walk up to one of the characters they go “Hey Gordon freeman” so you must be Gordon freeman zombie or that or there’s a bug there.
Anywho you have to break into Gordons “crib”. On achieving this you make your way through the basement to come across some not very well concealed Head crabs, when you take out the first one your kinda expecting the other 2. Anywho you work your way through the dungeon and what not and into the main house area belonging to Gordon freeman, then you hurry up the stairs and get told to look out of the window into the next building. Nothing exceptionally amazing happens, and then nothing. I had a run around the map seeing if I could find some trigger or button and I found nothing. So I noclipped my way out of the room and found a hidden attic office thing where I grab the Magnum.
Well after leaving the lab attic I climbed down some steps on the outside of the building and was told to jump this fence. Easy peasy I thought with a pile of boxes next to me. With the gravity gun in hand I hit the trigger to pick up the box but nothing. The boxes didn’t nudge, I had to noclip my way over the fence. Although I did try jumping from the top of this truck onto the garbage truck several times without success. Then working my way around I finally got hold of a rocket launcher to take out the two helicopters, got into my car and then the map ended.
Now the only thing about this map that was good was its architecture, it was quite impressive for a map, it was detailed but loosely. Except Gordon’s “crib” which was quite well decorated. Everything else seemed to be bad triggers or hidden ones that were not workout able or even useable from what I could see. Meaning that if you had little patience then you may give up easily.
Other then that it sustained about 10 minutes of interesting game play, i’ve never taken on two helicopters before and so it was a first for me.
Other then that, that’s the end of it. I wasn’t expecting a lot from a map but I got something and I think I was supposed to get some other stuff but that didn’t turn up.
So on the whole about a star will do it, and that’s just for the architecture.
Not very bad, not very good.
If the combat would have happened as described in the manual, it would have been more interesting. As it was, there wasn’t much combat and even the final battle at the end was very easy.
A caution to fellow game players who read the comments first before downloading:
The SupaComix comment above contains inaccuracies
SupaComix “The map is set sometime after Half Life 2: Episode 3”
Episode 3!
SupaComix “So I noclipped my way out of the room and found a hidden attic office thing where I grab the Magnum”
Why? The way is very straight forward. Noclip not required.
SupaComix “and was told to jump this fence”
No. You are told to get to the other side of town.
SupaComix “i had to noclip my way over the fence”
Of course you did, it’s the wrong way!
SupaComix “i did try jumping from the top of this truck onto the garbage truck several times without success”
But it’s a doddle. Jump on to the boot of car to the roof of car to the very obvious plank placed handily lengthwise on top of the truck to the garbage containers. It’s blindingly obvious.
There is an error here, I must admit. When you enter through the open door you’re told to use the RPG. Tricky, you haven’t got it yet. Only a small slip by the author who meant the Gravity Gun.
The Avoid It recommendation is quite wrong, I think you will agree.
It’s an unneccessary insult to the author and more than likely caused by bad gameplay (see above) in my view.
It’s not a bad map. It’s not a brilliant map. It is, as has already been said, an average map.
However it has been well mapped.
This review is misleading to us, the players.
The other commenters above give far superior appraisals.
Very well mapped I thought but rather short.
Best played in Hard skill. In easy. the Combine fall over in so much as a gentle breeze, a zephyr.
The Combine are a bit thin on the ground but there are 2 helicopters to take out at the end which is rather fun.
I admire the author for some imaginative thinking.
I suspect we have a budding artist for the Interior Design industry here.
This is not really even a must play.
More of a download now, save to desktop and keep it for when you need your HL2 fix and there’s nothing else about.
Sorry, Derek L Manns, I played as GF.
Next time, more combat please.
The file crashes right to the desktop. Probably a Steam issue.
