This is a short single map created as part of a Guidhall assignment. The player receives a few objectives via screen text and there is also some scripting of events. Work you way through a few various locations to a rebel base, then defend it.
“My final personal project at the Guildhall, “Contractual Termination” is a Half-Life 2 map focusing on single-player gameplay and scripting. The level was developed over six months, with other projects running in parallel, and is now available for download below.”

You start in what seems to be a residential area and have to make your way to a rebel base. There are three distinct section to play through, with the last level giving the most fun.
There were a few graphical errors visible from the within the buildings and this map is certainly not as polished as some other Guildhall releases but it doesn’t actually spoil the gameplay too much. I dislike starting reviews with the negative aspects but that was the first thing that came to mind.
When you get to the last section the author allows you to have some control over your defenses, it’s a technique that seems to be under used and I feel it does little to add anything tangible to this level, although it does raise the tension some what.
I played through the whole map in about ten minutes but felt it was perhaps a little easy. Of course I could kid myself and say I am getting better but I don’t think that’s true.
There waws one thing that really quite annoyed me and that was being able to walk of the cliff in the final section. It just seemed that the author should control the areas where I can die. If I jump of a cliff in real life I obviously will probably die but in a game I expect a cache of weapons and a stairwell back up!
Negatives
– Graphical errors.
– Environment a little sparse.
– Each section felt too separated.
– Perhaps a little too easy.
Positives
– Nice scripting of events (especially the rebel being chased.
– Good action ending
– Plenty of ammo.
Summary
The map felt like three distinct section and the last part also had a feeling of 3 separate sections. If the author could somehow make them flow more it would seem so disjointed. The end battle was fun and more or less compensated for the lack luster beginning.
I was close to making my recommendation a “Think Twice…” but felt it was worth playing, even though it’s not perfect.
5 Words Or Less Review
Better flow between sections required.
Hey Phillip good to see that you are still putting all those files in Filecloud. I think Im the one of the few people who can only download thru there. Be sure I’ll always download your content thru there since Filefront doesn’t work for me because the slots are always full for my region. Thanks.
I haven’t been able to finish this mod because everytime that I die it simple gets AI Disabled message. Well, I could say Consider it, it has good time and effort put into it and it’s basically a battle mod whre you get out from somewhere, pass thru a little sewer system and gets to a rebel outpost to help them get safe. And that’s where I can’t go any further because it simple gets doing that alarm sound and nothing more.
5 word review:
Could’ve been better, I bet.
Pretty good map, a little plane, but it was fun. I really liked the battle at the end.
I downloaded it cause I don’t see much new maps and I wanted to play one.
To #3 don’t feel too bad, I get the “A.I.Disabled” message at the start! I have tried the ai_disable “0” command to no avail! I have modified my autoexec.cfg file with the cmd line, with no luck, any suggestions?? I haven’t run into this problem in a long time!!
For me it was way too easy, thats not always bad, but the levels were a little plain, so I never got into it. I went through the final battle taking only two hits. Still fun though.
ive seen and played much worse.
It was ok.
to #5 I think the true fix is not to die ingame… try starting a new game
I didn’t die in the game, the Combine just stood there like a bunch of dummies, no movement! It’s no fun to wack someone who doesn’t fight back!!
Couldve had alot more combat situations alot areas were vacant & at the start you get alot weapons but not much use until you reach the sewers & the end battle.
The end battle was alright with the use of turrets & some NPCs tho only problem was their were 2 gunships but the 2nd gunship didnt appear I heard it & then the eventaully the end came in with no apparent ending.
Pros: End Battle challenge
Good level design
Cons: Not much challenge til the end
No ending
I’d say this map was slap bang in the middle of “average”. The level design was laid out quite nicely, although it could have certainly done with some more prop detail and improved brushwork in some areas.
The lighting was one of my main gripes with the appearance of this map. It was all too plain. I think most lights were pure white (255,255,255). It could have done with different colours to add variety to the locations.
I also had problems with the final section. One gunship and one APC turned up, I killed them both, then there was a long pause and nothing happened. Eventually I noclipped through one of the Combine barriers and a message came up saying I’d finished it. I was confused.
No problems here. I did see the second gunship, it was somewhere behind the house… I took it down, and then you walk in the tunnel, and it ends.
I guess you have to take the second one down, before the shield in the tunnel goes down.
It’s short, but fun. Nice setups, but nothing very original. Most of it well done, but I also saw a graphical error. Some of the decor moved with me when I crouched.
Not a bad map if a bit on the short side. Set design and texture used was good if nothing new in the way of either. Some areas were a bit empty to say the least but that’s not a draw-back of the game. End sequence was fun with plenty of action, overall well worth a play through.
it was pretty good but when I found a glitch where I got stuck in a rebels body!
The download link to Filefront just under “Files” works.
Short but great fun.
Nicely put together. Straight forward good old fashioned HL2 combat fun.
No less than Normal skill suggested.
Hard skill reccommended.
10 minutes of good game play, but brief, gets 4 stars from me.
A cool swim is rewarded.
Then I remembered fragmaster’s comment that there are 2 Gunships.
There are! Lovely.
In the final battle, polish of the Combine, Gunship and APC then head towards the exit tunnel – but do not enter or the map will finish.
Turn around and it’s behind the house, out of view.
Go wake it up and have at it.
I’ve updated this post and put a working PP download link in there too.
Little bland setting at first but the gameplay makes up for it. I’ll be playing this over and over.

The map is very easy tbh because of unlimited rocket launcher ammo. Simply spam that and you’d kill every combine easily.
