Author’s Note: “This is my 1st “real” map and i have spent much time trying new things on it. Hope you like it 🙂
It ends when you get the message “you have found a way out””
This map is a bit of a mix, on the one hand it contains some nice features and design but is let down by some bugs and poorly-thought out design. There is one point where you encounter a scientist who is just standing in the middle of a large corridor. Talk to him and he somehow attaches himself to you. I had to kill him to be able to move! I tried it a second time and the same thing happen.
There is a nice touch at the end where you can see the Gman looking down at you. (I tried cheating and tried to get the crossbow so I could take a screenshot but it wouldn’t work for me.

Yes i`m the killer from TWHL.
Nice of you to put my map here. Would have been nicer to know.
based on comments at TWHL the map there will soon be updated with bug fixes and inproments here and there.

You are correct, sorry.
Keep up the good work.
“Talk to him and he somehow attaches himself to you”
I cannot reproduce that and there for cannot fix it.
Can any one else who gets this and CAN reproduce it pls send bug report to [email protected]
btw:give subject as “escape”
I’ve just spent the last 30 minutes trying to record this with both GameCam and Fraps but everytime I try he behaves normally!
The one thing I can tell you is that it is the grey-haired scientist. Occaionally I get a different scientist with dark hair. Is this behaviour normal?
I will try again later today.
“The one thing I can tell you is that it is the grey-haired scientist. Occaionally I get a different scientist with dark hair. Is this behaviour normal?”
Yes. That is one of the better things about the hammer editer
“The one thing I can tell you is that it is the grey-haired scientist. Occaionally I get a different scientist with dark hair. Is this behaviour normal?”
yes unless the mapper sets it to use a certain one
I was asking whether this was specifically connected to the problem. Perhaps I was the only player seeing a grey-haired scientist.
well I can`t produce it and no one at TWHL has had it.
I think it`s a problem with the game and not the map.
Are you useing an old “won” vesion of half life?
No, the latest version (Standalone). If I’m the only one then it’s best forgotten.
Gameplay:
A short and simple level to play without any difficulty. A few enemies in certain areas but there could have been a few more to spice up the action, many areas felt empty or too few enemies making it too easy. Just the right amount of ammo for the whole level to defeat the enemies with ease and health isn’t much of a problem due to the fact there isn’t many enemies to face and be avoided.
Design:
Above average with a simple and clean design with a few littler details here and there which look quite good. However, a few areas are quite flat and empty and could have had a better design in those areas. Texturing is average, with some good choices and fairly aligned, some textures did look a little repeatative in some places though.
Conclusion:
A short and simple level with a small amount of action and above average design.
Rating: 65%
Short, simple and fairly easy but nevertheless, a playable game well designed that just lacks longevity.
Another very short escape map. BM lookalike complex with some corridors, single, small rooms and a scientist needed for the retina scanner.
The mapping is grey in grey usually, only the last outdoor scene is at least decent, overall there is less variety in textures, design. Also details. Therefore almost no atmosphere.
Puzzles are missing, and the story is also neglectable (meaning there is none).
Combat was cool, but too easy due to it can be avoided totally, except for the place after riding the elevator up. Ammo is limited too, but that’s a good aspect. However it’s more than enough.
Pro’s:
-At least a bit action
-Little surprise after the last door opens
-Some scripts (spawnings)
-Secret area (weapon surprise)
-Decent end
Con’s:
-Major scientist bug, only the black one could open the door for me (when playing the 3rd time, scientist look changed every time)
-Balancing – too easy, because of avoidable combat, no puzzles
-Triggering scripts doesn’t work properly I’m afraid (scienist, zombie, mapload with no weapons)
-Very short (~3-10 mins)
-Basic, boxy and undetailed mapping mostly, therefore less atmosphere
-No story
-No puzzles
-Looking very unfinished, buggy
P.S. Where’s a crossbow? I think there is none.
This is the 4th mod that I played for HL1 that has Escape on the title. How original.
Apart from that title though, this map is actually really decent. The gameplay is fun, but it’s incredibly easy. The combat is fine enough but the mapping is extremely mediocre. It’s very empty and boxy. Also, that part with the scientist could’ve been a bit better.
Overall, this mod is fine for a 5 minute break. Don’t expect anything major, but if you like these kind of maps, then give this one a try.
