Author’s note:
“This map was created for the ‘Talking Scientists’ conmpetition at TWHL. The basic idea was to have two scientists talking to each other. As you will see, I added my own twists. In fact, this map is my second release. Made within two weeks, I just managed to get the map finished before the competition deadline. And although it looks decent and plays well, some things had needed a little more time for tweaking. The voice-acting is of relative bad quality, no autosave spots were added, some textures were really overused. I didn’t have the time to think about these things anymore. Concerning the textures, most were self-made, the others come from CS and HL. Still, it’s playable and probably enjoyable. So, have fun!”

Quite nice. The level design was pretty nice, especially the glimpse you get of the “outside” near the end.
Nice original little map. Funny.
Very nice map. I liked the walking on the pipes as an alternative root. It looks more than decent, the author is just being modest. I’ve played with Hammer last night and I’ve realized there’s a lot of hard work to do something without errors and even more hard work to do something that people will actually like. Right now I’m seeing most of the mappers as architects without a diploma..
1 minute download, 5 minutes play. Get it whenever you have the time.
Note: This was a TWHL competition map, topic: “Talking Scientists”
It’s a single map with custom textures from HL and “CounterStrike” in some industrial-looking area.
There is a little puzzle included but usually it’s just running through, listen to the scientists until you find the shotgun, which leads to lil combat with human grunt until you reach the end.
Pretty simple, nothing special, but I liked the map’s layout and design much. Nonetheless, not really recommendable.
But for a few minutes it’s good enough to check it out, maybe it gives a little inspiration for mappers about layouting new maps…
Pro’s:
-Quite good map architecture, good lighting
-A bit combat, good balancing – a lil too easy for me, but not for rookies I think 😉
-A tiny “puzzle”
Con’s:
-Extremely short
-Less combat
-Boring scientists dialogue imo
-Poor variety in textures, enemies, ..
Short, but great.
The custom textures are from CS, and they are pretty overused really. It doesn’t add to the map a lot.
The combat was… nice. Well, there are only 4 enemies, but the thing is that the situation the map puts you is just ridiculous. The shotgun is NOT a long-range weapon, people.
All of this may sound very negative, but deep in my heart, I love this map, and I dunno why. Maybe it’s the cheesy and nostalgic dialogue between the scientists, the atmosphere or the whole map itself.
Overall, this is a really short and nice map that I recommend you play it.
