Ammo is in short supply, so use it sparingly.
In fact, why don’t you use the grenades that the Combine soldiers through?
Find all the switch and reach the suitcase.
They are not easy to find though!
“The point of this map is, as the name says, rejecting grenades (pick up, with “use” key, one thrown by soldier and reject it as if it were yours). some clips lie around although, so you shouldn’t worry about ammo if you decide to play it standard way. your target is to find five levers handling wooden doors near your start position. there is a hidden area behind central pillar in the hall shown on 3rd screen. you must walk down the stairs and crawl over an edge surrounding that pillar. use your weapons wisely, snipe with pistol and get the crowbar as soon as you can. combines’ grenades are also useful for blowing out creatures. “

Help needed:
If you load a saved game within this map you get “A.1. Disable” which defeats the object of the game. Does anyone know a way around this, short of playing the game without save/load that is.
I noclip through this game and while it’s no classic it does however looks interesting enough to play.
Open the console and type AI_Disable 0
For a permanent fix depending on the mod or game.
“Go into your hl2\cfg\ folder, and create a txt file, inside this
text file, write the following lines.
ai_norebuildgraph “1”
ai_disable “0”
Save, then rename the text file to ai_fix.cfg, right click the file
and set it to read only.
Next, open up valve.rc in notepad, you should see the following
// load the base configuration
//exec default.cfg
// Setup custom controller
exec joystick.cfg
// run a user script file if present
exec autoexec.cfg
//
// stuff command line statements
//
stuffcmds
// display the startup level
startupmenu
under “exec autoexec.cfg”, add this line
exec ai_fix.cfg
Save the file and your done!
(Copied from another source whom I forget.)
open console and type AI_Disable 0
Thanks andyb, that worked so managed to play through the game. Will add some notes about how it played.
Reject.
First of all this map has one major problem, if you load a saved game within the map the AI get Disabled, which kinder kills the point of any game. But thanks to “andyb” you can go into the console and type AI_Disable 0 and get the action back. I found that you need to do this each time you loaded a saved game, so it pays to save a lot but load as little as poss.
The author’s notes on the listing are not to clear and what with the AI issue it may be apt to give a few hints on playing this one through. From the start look behind and you will see 5 dark slots in the wall, the object being to find the 5 levers that light up the slots.
Alongside the slots in the wall is a door which is not too clear to see, when all the lights are triggered this will open and the game will finish when you go in and pickup the bag.
From the start turn left, there are passages off to both the left and right, keep going straight as possible and you will come to a citadel type door, and you will need to shot open this door bit by bit. The reason for taking this route first is that the only crowbar in the game is to be found in this section and you will need it. it’s a matter now of finding the 5 levers, use ammo sparingly and use the crowbar when ever possible. The only other issue I found is one door that did not trigger, well not for me, if back at the start you go in the opposite direction down the main centre passage you will come to the door in question, there is a route around the door to the left which you will need to take sometime, on this route you can jump down and work your way back to the other side of the door, but I found it took to much damage so opted to noclip the door, either way you must do this section.
Conclusion; the map is playable with a degree of game play but is far from being a classic map. I like a mixture of shot and kill coupled with search and find hence the reason I slogged this one out, AI disable and all. Only play this map if you are short of a fix, there is nothing new and it’s all basic design and textures, but I enjoyed it.
Received 404 error
Fixed.
Right, let me start by saying I cheated at the end of this map but you shouldn’t. I cheated because I was recording myself for the video above and in those cases, it’s simply boring to watch somebody running around for ages.
The map itself was quite fun but I really should have taken the author’s advice and waited for the soldiers to throw grenades and used them against the soldiers – DOH! Silly Philly.
You need to switch 5 or 6 switches (I can’t remember now) and this will give you access to a room. I found 5 quite easily but the last one requires you to do something that the map hasn’t explicitly taught you.
Anyway, it was fun.
All in all, I say play it, but more for the challenge than the quality of design.

The goal while playing Reject is to throw 5 switches placed around a maze-like map. You start off with a 9mm pistol with not alot of ammo. I shot some zombies, and there was no ammo left to shoot the combine with. Giving the player a crowbar already solves this problem. I did not like the design of the map, it was pretty boring, empty and simple. I ended up noclipping through the map because I just did not want to walk all the way to the next destination. I also encountered some missing textures. I did not really enjoy playing this map, sorry.

You, like me, didn’t understand the meaning of the name and the game play objective.
We were supposed to use the grenades that the soldiers throw at you.
The author purposefully didn’t include enough ammo and the crowbar can be found early, depending on which way you go.
That would’ve worked better if you got the gravity gun
I’m not sure I agree with that. Why do you think it would have been better?
Rejecting the grenades? Yes, much easier with the grav gun.
Yeah, I suppose, but maybe then the whole level would be too easy.
funny,interesting, map. ..You need to find 5 levers. On your way there will be harvesters, zombies (different) A simple but interesting task

I really enjoyed this. True it was easy to get lost and the ammo was in short supply but on the whole with careful gameplay this was not a problem. Curiously I didn’t experience the AI Disable problem at all so I don’t know if this was maybe been fixed in my version. I did have to remap all the keyboard settings, I’ve never seen such a strange setup. Also the choice of using the mousewheel to change weapons was either up or down but not both which made switching a bit more difficult. All in all though well worth a play.
This map does a lot of things that are frustrating. It’s maze-like and most areas aren’t distinctive at all which quickly leads you to feeling lost. There is no feedback on what any of the switches do, it’s left up to the player to guess that all switches have to be found to unlock something.
The biggest problem is the severe lack of ammo, which is even more pronounced on Medium than Easy. I can’t imagine playing this on Hard. How on Earth is the player expected to know that they are supposed to “reject” grenades back to the enemies (especially without a grav gun)? This breaks so many design principles and not in a clever or fun way.
The crowbar is off the beaten path enough that I never found it. This map is pure frustration.

Got a CTD when downloading direct into Gauge, and then again when downloading separately and using Gauge to install it. Gave up, and by the comments I didn’t miss anything 😉
Which version of Gauge are you using?
2.7.2 here. CTD with no error messages
Starts fine without gauge
Linux: runs after lowercase and copy the server.so and client.so to the bin folder.
I thought I wouldn’t like this one. But actually, I did. The whole mapping design looked good, and resemble those classic “Doom” maps, but with a pure HL2 Style.
Then I also thought I was about to have some problems with the gameplay but I didn’t have them at all. To me, this was fairly easy even on medium skill. I thought I also wouldn’t be able to pick up the SMG’S of dead CMB but I reach to pick up much ammo at the beginning by using my pistol wisely and progress through the whole map. So if you do that, the rest it will be so much easier.
Then the levers or switches weren’t that hard to find, which I appreciate, and so If you plan your ammo wisely at the beginning, I think that’s the key to beat this map.

So, I’ll be honest. This wasn’t difficult at all, eccept finding out which lever I didn’t pull by mistake because of my damn speedrunning obsession.
People had problems managing ammo, but I just shot the first combine I found in the head and took his SMG. No zombies were harmed during the making of my playthrough. I played this on HARD. Well, the map design was ok: it’s a maze, as expected.
7/10 would get lost for 5 minutes again.

Fun as heck. Feels like a portal test chamber, and using an underutilized mechanic in HL2 is great. The level design is boxy, but in a way that feels evocative of classic maps. Some of the level design is confusing or sends mixed messages, but overall, this is a joy to play through.

Reject. It sure was.
Game has unique map design, all tho it needs more polishing.
