This Map Labs challenge focused on purely visuals – make a pretty map, gameplay optional (and did not count toward the score). This was a Test Tube, so the mappers only had about a week to pull off the best-looking map they could.
This time there were a whopping 28 entries (including a bunch of bonus maps, and adding another fantastic background map). Enjoy!

A lot of beautiful entries, and a few where is didnt know what to do. My fav: White forest. It looks great. Thank you to all the mappers for their work.
Many Great and beautiful entries. Some even mind blowing for me at least

Might be nice to have a small explanation for each one. I also found that it was not clear on some whether there was meant to be any game play or not.
Strange but on my computer I couldn’t get White Forest to start. The little loading gauge goes right up to the end and stops. Nothing else happens. All the others run fine.
Eveything is in the title its Eye Candy not a lot of really enjoyable playble stuff here:
sometime it’s walktrough, sometimes it’s small puzzle and mostly no combat.
most of yhe maps will take you 2-3min to finish when you can finish it
i will point out for me
Another perspective, the most interesting combat map
other that where interesting for me through their originality and approach
In Memory of Humanitea, Aftermath, G-Cans Project, The Wishgranter
couldn’t load the white forest map neither

For what they set out to do, these LOOK great. Just amazing looking ideas. Really stretching the engine. Stuff I’ve never seen. Needle Crash and Bonheur were my favorite.

This eye-candy map lab challenge is a perfect Play it Later.
Most of the entries were pretty maps indeed, but Overall I felt them just like a walking simulator, You know my daughter and I used to joke about how some Roblox games are just that, big walk around simulators in excellent-looking maps. Hehe, for some reason I had this exact feeling in most entries.
I guess the one I loved the most was the entry where reflexive Vortigaunts think about humanity, that one and the Human Legacy Museum were my favorites.
Overall I felt the whole mod, was a little bit boring, so well at least we had one combat with cool entries.
I am not against beautiful maps, but I consider this eye-candy competition would be even better if they have at least one map goal or a bit of combat. Let me explain, in my opinion, the most beautiful HL2 map I’ve ever played in, is Gmods “Gm_Fork” is huge and beautiful, but placing some enemies in it makes it even better. I remember mounting huge battles against the CMB units on that map and was very fun to play, and also playing on a beautiful map makes it even better. I hope some developer someday makes a cool SP mod for “Gm_Fork”.
I think the eye-candy concept makes perfect maps in beautiful scenarios, but with a clear SP goal in mind just make memorable entries to play.
