Hello my little headcrabs. This weekend, I will be continuing my Level Design Academy practise. In case you don’t know, the LDA is an on-going project where Don teaches me how to map for Goldsource.
The streams will consist of my practising creating basic corridors with a view to developing my skills. I will also be starting Half-Life and observing the design and construction of its corridors.
Both streams, Saturday and Sunday, will start at 2pm Central European Summer Time (12pm GMT, 1pm BST, 8am Eastern US) on Saturday the 15th.
On Sunday, I will continue the same process.
Each stream will last between 90 to 120 minutes.
For somebody who has never joined a stream, it can seem pointless: watching somebody map and/or play games is like watching somebody watch a film. But the stream is a community event. Viewers can chat with the streamer and other viewers and it becomes an interactive experience.
It’s often funny and always informative.
If you have never watched our streams, try it once and you might be surprised.
Please check the RTSL twitter for updates and as usual the stream will be on the RTSL YouTube Channel for the info.
You should double check the Time & Date.Com website for your local time.
All streams will be on the RTSL YouTube Channel. Yes, I know I said that above, but you would be surprised at how many people don’t read posts properly. Not you, of course, because you are even reading this, aren’t you?
The header images comes from Urby, lead developer of The Core who made the corridor during my previous LDA Practise stream.
If you have any questions about the streams, just ask.
As Official Time Zone Checker, I updated the post to show Central European Summer Time which is different than CET – and corrected the Eastern US time to 8am. Timezones suck but I’m pretty sure the times listed now are right.
Thank you. Timezones suck, but so do I.
I wait stream. And maybe i cant see it if dont in it day be busy.
Can’t wait ! Will you be following a format (i.e 2 chapters a stream) ?
No, I’ll just start with some corridor practice, then fire up the game and look around a bit and try to copy some aspects.
I know a thing that worked a bit for me. Thanks to bspsrc, I decompiled thousands of Valve maps, then, I looked around to see how everything worked, the LOD of every map…
However, due to the fact you are on Jack and you are mapping for Half-life, I don’t know if this would work…
I shall do my utmost to be there when this starts!
…I shall also need to drill it into myself that it’s a long weekend and that tomorrow is Friday, not Saturday.
I hope to be watching live this time. A little on the early side for a weekend but not too bad. At the very least watching live might save me from pulling my hair out while watching the VOD later.
Looking at the files supplied at http://bit.ly/LDA-Files I noticed that the reference manual for J.A.C.K doesn’t seem to be included (and yes, I could easily be wrong). As it’s not exactly easy to find (it doesn’t even appear on the main J.A.C.K. website) I’m including a link here http://jack.hlfx.ru/pub/VDKManual.pdf . It’s NOT a tutorial, only a reference manual but I thought it might be worthwhile having it to hand
Yes, those files were created for Season 1 and we started with JACK in Season 2. Thanks for the links.
Thanks, I will add it. You can also get to the pdf from Jack’s Help menu.
Edit: sorry, that may just be in the Steam version of Jack. In any case, it’s on the Google drive now.
