Here’s what caught my eyes on ModDB.
- G-String: Space Battle
Looks interesting, but I’m not interested in this. Hope the developers don’t get carried away and lose what GString was: an innovative FPS. Worried about the fact that they will used WASD controls as I have never used those. Cool they are going to support VR though. Trailer below. - Half-Life: R
Can’t say I am interested in having new view models, but some people are. as the designer says, he is making it because he can, so good luck to him. - From Earth: Merging Items
Long article from AU-Heppa on how two items can merge. Looks pretty cool but I generally perfer simplier options to my games and mods, but can’t fault the creativity involved. Check out the trailer too. - Steam, Tracks, Troubles and Riddles: Updated Beta
This interseting, although slightly lacking mod is recieving an update and a bnew beta version is available. Personally, I would have prefered the author took what he learnt from the original and crated soemthing new, but all credit to him for wanting to improve his work. - Half-Life: Opposing Force: Source – Media Release 5
Work continues on this port, but as with ALL remakes, I would prefer something new. - Half-Life: Blue Shift: Source – Media Release 3
KOLIAakaJASON is also working on this, so splitting his time between the two. I hate to sound negative, but surely it would be better to do one properly and then move onto the next one. - Sand of the death 2
What The Headcrab is this? Seems like I completely missed the first one – not sure if that was good or bad. I’ll check it out this week. Anyway, version 2 is coming and it looks a pretty simple concept: Shoot Shit. Let me know if you have played it. - Car-poral Keys
OMG What The Headcrab is going on here? Donald McRonald is an enemy. Looks a weird mod, might be fun to play.
Not much going on SP map-wise over on GB at the moment. I might extend my interest to models and other areas next time.
- SP Map: Sniperyard
I did add this to the site as it was in beta. I’ll give it a bit longer and if it is not update, I’ll post it. It’s pretty good. - Fazbear’s Fright: The Horror Attraction
This is a very cool looking map, but unfortunately, it doesn’t have any interaction, so I can’t add it to the site. Quite nice to wander aroud though.
Reddit is a mixed bag of posts. Most are just images and things, some are very cool though. I always recommend reading through it at least once a week. ANything that links to a video will be posted in the section below.
- Looking for any books or games similar to Half-Life
I haven’t read the answers yet, but that topic would definitely interest me. I’m currently re-re-reading Asimov’s Foundation series. - I love the Black Mesa facility. I’m trying to recreate Sector C in google sketchup. Just finished the tram station.
Pretty cool recreation. - Tomorrow, Half-Life 3 will overtake TF2 to become the Valve game with the longest gap between announcement and release
Makes me depressed – I shouldn’t read these posts. - Minimal HL T-Shirts
Look good, would definitely buy some if I were a T-shirt man. - Valve writer says Half-Life 3 will not be a VR game
Thanks goodness for that. I definitely can’t afford to buy any VR hardware.
I’m always looking for new videos about or related to HL, so please send me links.
- A Ridiculous Recap Of Half Life
This is so funny. You must watch this. - Half Life Nail Art Tutorial
Worth watching even if you don’t paint your nails. If I had a girlfriend who was interested in stuff like this, I would let her do it for Halloween.
- All Things Lambda returning
LambdaGeneration tweeted they are bringing back thier podcast, so if you like what they talk about, get ready for some new episodes.
Phew, that was less than I wanted to cover, but I brought everything together at the last minute. From now on, I’ll start create the post each day.
Please feel free to send links and items for the next podcast and also to comment on what you would like to see more or less of.
Remember, finishing Half-Life is just the beginning! CYA.
Gave it a listen, You will really need a second host or guest to make the podcast work a lot better. With just the one person it mostly just becomes a news roundup that could easily be done in text form. What the headcrab needs that second person just to get the conversation, arguments and banter really rolling, its one of the reasons I tend to listen to podcasts such as the Co-optional podcast.
If you are capable of getting Jim on board for them, I think it will help out a lot. Otherwise, I’m sure there are plenty of people in this website and outside it that would not mind picking up the mic for a 10 minute session.
For the content plan though, its Half-Life, outside of the regular website posts, this allows people to find Half-life content that would not be posted on the site like mods and maps would. So I’m all for this podcast to be a regular thing.
It was only ever designed as a news round up. Having a show with discussion is a completely different type of podcast and one that I have tried many times. Look through the General Discussion section for more detailed podcasts.
It’s easy to say “I’m sure there are plenty of people in this website and outside it that would not mind picking up the mic for a 10 minute session.” but the reality is I can’t pre-arrange a time to record, plus timezones are always a factor.
This way, I know I can make a regular round up show for people who might have missed stuff.
Not bad Phillip, I like some news for muah.
I usually watch Valve news network for hl stuff, but the guy is usually working with rumors and banters so it’s not reliable all the time.
I’ll be covering very different items than VNN.
Not to mention the VNN guy apparently has ADD and is annoying as shit
Not to mention how he shamelessly monetizes the hard work of others and barely gives them any credit for it.
Woo, look at me! I can read a Combine Overwiki article! I can cite unsourced rumors I heard on Reddit! I can review a mod without providing a link in the video! I can edit my voiceover like a poor man’s imitation of Zero Punctuation! Like, comment, subscribe and support me on Patreon, plz! 😉
Yep, there is that too.
Is there likely to be a Halloween mapping contest?
Maybe.
Great job Phillip, lots of stuff to do now!
Thanks.
Sounds interesting enough already. Great start, Phillip!
Hey, good first episode. I’m always on the lookout for podcasts to listen to in the office and if it’s Half-Life related that’s a definite bonus.
On the subject of a co-host, I certainly think a bit of banter would liven things up, but it runs the risk of going on much longer. I’d love to be involved but already have way too much going on. 😛
It would but then the podcast turns into a different type of show. It goes from a news round up to a discussion show and organizing a regular one of those is hard for me. If I get into a rhythm and record more or less on the same day and at the time each week, then I might try to find a co-host.
I’m not complaining in any way, shape or form. I’ll still be listening regardless. 🙂
I know you weren’t complaining, I just wanted to explain. I am now hoping to have a “Pick of the Heacrab” where me and a couple of people record a show discussing our 3 favourite news items I covered in the last 3 or 4 shows.
Excellent addition to the website, both the text and the podcast! I love the conciseness of the current podcast as a quick news round-up, witty and enjoyable but still very quick and to the point.
On a side note, is there any chance we might see a return of the “Real World Theme” news posts? I don’t think there’s been one on RTSL for several years, but I always found them really interesting and inspiring. Could we make our own submissions?
Yeah I miss playing those, I’d already suggested last month something about ‘disasters’ given the China explosions. 🙂
Yeah. I did think about doing something for that but since there was loss of life, I decided against it.
I’m glad you liked it.
Well, I would like to post more “Real World Theme”, but nothing has really caught my eye. I’ll try to do one in November though.
