A couple of maps based on Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time
Author’s note: “You play as Link (Or whatever you choose to name him in the beginning) And these maps I have re-made follow the basic introduction storyline to how Zelda starts out. Link is awoken by the great deku tree and set forth on an adventure to free the deku tree from the evil spirits within it.
Before he can do that, he must explore his forest home in search of a weapon and a means of defending himself. While exploring, link is free to do anything he wishes. There is no time crunch. Only catch : You can’t leave the forest.
Because I cannot code I could not achieve some of the effects or enemies I would have liked to implement. Fog would have been nice. [Damnit highlander] But I did try to put a half-life-esque twist on everything.”

I’m on a run of MAYBE recommendations at the moment it seems. This is another mod that looks completely different from a standard HL setting, so only play this if you enjoy this sort of thing.
I didn’t hate it, but neither did I love it.
There is some combat but the beginning starts with exploring and collecting. I had a little trouble with the third-person view in one of the “huts” but a quick restart was enough to fix it.
I don’t know if I missed something but after I killed the garg, I couldn’t leave that room.
All in all a fun 20 minutes in a new world with a HL twist.

I am completely at a loss here as to how to proceed. I found the crowbar and a hut with the Gman telling me I could have the suit for 20 rupees. I assume I am supposed to smash the little gem objects but have only found 17 of them. What am I missing?
It’s kind of an interesting little map if you like exploring. However, I found the alternate view when you entered the huts really annoying and pointless. I spent a lot of time looking for something critical in those huts but really only the one with the Gman inside is important. It took me a long time to figure out how to get past the initial part. I never did understand what the giant Easter Egg thing was for, as you don’t need it to proceed. It would have been nice to have a proper ending after you kill the Garg as well. Worth a play if you like exploring and have patience.

I’ve never played any of the Zelda games, so whether the appearance was ‘correct’ or close I can’t say, but I did really enjoy it. It wasn’t immediately apparent to me that you could climb those vine-wall things, but I did brush up against one and that made getting around easier.
I think the ‘egg’ thing was projecting a force field on the vine wall though – I couldn’t get through the vine area even though I’d broken them up, then noticed it and did whatever with it, and then I could get through.
I too wish that something else ‘happened’, like you should totally be able to break pots and stuff in those huts, right? 😀 Cute little mod. Nice work!

Exactly the same experience, and conclusions, as Zekiran. I did really enjoy it too. The ending, or lack of, put me off.

I can’t load this. I get two error dialogues then the game crashes:
“The procedure entry point ?GetMousePos@Surface@vgui@@UAEXAAH0@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library vgui.dll”
“could not load library c:\PATH TO VALVE\tetsu0_cot\cl_dlls\client.dll”
Try copying your client.dll from your valve/cl_dll/ folder. Alternatively, save yourself a lot of hassle and try using MapTap, that should work.
I assume I ended this mod, because I achieved to kill the Garg, but after that nothing!! I really don’t know if i missed a trigger or something but I think that’s the end.
I have to be honest and say at first I thought of recommend this one as a Think Twice, but that looks a little unfair, because overall the whole mapping design is pretty good, as it tries to recreate another game, and that’s not always an easy thing to do. Here the aesthetic look superb for be a HL1 mod.
Though I think mapping is good, for some reason the gameplay design looks pretty terrible to me, because I never found the crowbar, that I guess it should be in a wooden chest, but it was empty when I opened it. That forced me to place impulse 101 cheat and the rest of the map and the combat against some xenians was a piece of cake.
Finally, if this mod ends by just being trapped in that room after you kill the Gargantua, then is a very bad end and almost a ripp off. So thats another big flaw for this mod.
I guess if you like Zelda then you may want to try this, overall this mod feels to me like a big Maybe?

A very fun remake of the first levels of Ocarina of Time. The mapping was decent, but the uselessness of some things (like the huts) were just made for the feel that the original game had, which I know is what’s supposed to happen, but this is Half-Life. The Great Deku Tree looked great and it looked very similar to the one in the original game. If you feel nostalgic for your N64 or if you like Alt Mods, then this is for you.
Visuals look great, combat is fairly easy, ending has no ending so this is more of an endless mod because after killing the garg, it leaves you no idea what to do. Collecting rupees can be difficult because there are some of them hiding inside the ground. What’s worse is that collecting rupees hurt you. Imagine playing an actual Zelda game and you gradually lose your health everytime you collect a rupee.
Putting my score as a “maybe”, I do like it but its very jank.
Mod broke on me quite a few times. First time was getting the crowbar. Didn’t spawn on my first attempt. Either that or the trigger is very specific/weird. I had to restart the mod. Fortunately, the mod’s short so it wasn’t much of a loss. The third person huts while cool also broke on me sadly. Would sometimes switch to first person, than my model would become invisible while in third person, so I wouldn’t be able to exit. Doesn’t help its kinda hard to control. Had to reload a save. Also the white outlines on the veins, no beuno.
However I don’t want to shit on it, I do find it quite quaint. I like the environments and it has some charm. I don’t play Zelda, but it seems to match the vibe of those games. There’s a lot of cool bits, I like the third person huts (more in theory but eh), the puzzles, the general detail of the map etc. I think its all neat stuff! There’s also something pretty funny on just having a glock on a ancient pedestal.
I would prefer music for the places after the starting area, and at least had a fade to black for the ending. There’s a lot of things I wish the mod did, but what can I do. I do understand that the mod is unfinished. I still like it in the end, despite the issues.
