You find yourself in some sort of research facility.
Your task is to find a scientist called Einstein and he will lead you to safety.
The trouble is you don’t know where he is, so you will jus have to kill everything in your way and look in every room etc.
Good Luck!

This is a strange mod for me to review because I very much enjoyed the design and setting but felt that the gameplay and enemy placement were not equal to the rest.
Yes, I enjoyed it and I recommend you play it, but I got a little bored with the simple “left/right” choices. I became frustrated with the groupings of houndeyes and alien grunts.
The time and effort that went into creating the set pieces of machinery should have been also put into the gameplay planning.
Anyway, play it and you’ll have fun.

It’s kind of fun, and there are some nice touches to it, but these maps could have used some extra testing before being released. I found the beginning to be quite difficult if you chose the wrong path and went straight for the HEV suit. I also found the elevators confusing as I twice pushed the button outside them expecting the elevator doors to open, but instead the elevators started moving and left me in the lobby. I also got stuck when pressing a giant red lever to start up a device, as I was too close to it and it trapped me when it finished moving. Still it’s decent to play.

Project Einstein is a very odd mod, but you’ll mostly have fun with it.
At first, there was one thing that stood out from this mod, and it was the atmosphere. It is really, REALLY good, trust me on this one.
This mod is mostly great, but it does suffer from one thing; the enemy placement. I don’t like Houndeyes, Vortigaunts and Alien Grunts in the form of “packs”. Also, this mod has a lot of headcrabs, but NO crowbar, which is also a shame.
Overall, you will most likely enjoy this mod apart from the enemy issues.
The atmosphere was good, the backgrounds as per the other mods this creator has made were ‘interesting’, but still quite … nonsensical in their layout and certainly incomplete in terms of game play related to where the map moves you.
No idea what some parts of the maps were trying to get me to do, and I had to noclip to the final rooms because nothing seemed apparent to click on or activate. (I never managed to activate whatever it was in that one dark room with lots of machinery and an on/off button, if that was powered up somewhere, I have no idea where. Had to cross that toxic pit assuming that whatever happened down in that dark room would have bridged/removed it.)
Those three screenshots before the last one (with the man) … I have never seen what could possibly have turned those devices on. That room remained entirely too dark to see, and the woefully inadequate flashlight in HL1 meant I just largely gave up.
It was pretty to the point, though, even though the ‘point’ was never made clear at all while playing. No text, no voiceovers, nothing. Poorly planned early stages meant “exactly enough bullets for the first rooms” and then *nothing* more. I don’t care for starting over so quickly, but that’s what I had to do in order to progress at all.
I’d say it’s an improvement overall, from those prior maps. Certainly playable, reasonably challenging. But not a great mod by any stretch.

I don’t know how long it actually took to play. I had to refer to the walkthrough several times, and as mentioned before it was difficult to know what was going on. It only became clear in hindsight after completing various things.

This was a nice medium size mappack. I had to install it manually as Map Tap seems to not work recently when I use it.
The environment of this mod is cool, and I guess is because it is well lit and the textures feel warm and cozy, and that’s interesting because that facility doesn’t feel as Black Mesa, it feels a little bit more futuristic than that.
The combat was pretty nice and only fire weapon available, though I also really miss the crowbar and fight against some grunts.
The enemy placement was not that great but is fair enough, and finally, I guess the backtracking was well implemented as in this mod you always have something to do, press buttons enable levers, and I guess combat and solving hindrances in your way are well balanced.
Overall I like it and it felt nice to play.

This is basically a map filled with loads of enemies who teleport en mass around you while giving you limited ammo. Makes it near impossible when you go to the middle of a room, about 5 Vortigaunts spawn out of thin air and hitscan you to death in a few seconds.
Really bad map. Can’t recommend at all.

This was a bit of a weird map.
I mean, it doesn’t have an introduction like I’m used to and you start directly in a hallway assuming you did something before (I mean it feels incomplete)
As for things like the enemies and their positions, the level design is quite decent and not bad at all.
