This mini-partial-conversion was made for a mapping competition.
It features a medieval theme, some Quake touches and a great soundscape.
Enemies and weapons are all from the Half-Life universe.

I should warn you that is is quite a small mod, but I feel it packs an interesting punch.
Visuals
This small level really looks the part, the lighting is great too, especially the spots above the weapons.
Gameplay
Just a simple “turn the corner and kill an enemy”. There’s little exploration and very little vertical movement involved.
Layout and Design
It’s too small to get to excited over the layout but the overal design is very good. I would also like to mention the use of music and sound effects, that really made the mod feel perfect for the setting.
Hall Of Fame Justification
Although some players may not enjoy this mod I felt that it was intersting enough to ensure that it got wider exposure.
Summary
Not the longest mod you will play, especially since the longest mod ever made (Strider Mountain) is due out today but this mini-mod is all about quality.
Short and sweet.
Well, it’s a map.
I found myself looking forward to the ep1 releases that you said were going to get posted when you got back from holidays.
I don’t remember saying anything about ep1 releases. I am so unorganized!
Very nice map. It really feels like quake. I’d like to see longer version of it with a nice little story.
I enjoyed this one; it took me back to my Quake playing days.
I would not have thought that a Quake/HL mix would have worked, but this did. Someone should expand the idea; maybe the author can give us more, with a story line and more ambitious sets.
In case anyone has Won, since this mod was only tested on steam, it still works on Won.
I played it via Won,
WOW, great old school mod, wish it was not so short.
No need to play it via steam as it wasnt in earlier days.
Any one experience a bit of nostalgia while playing this? I sure did. My favorite game of all time, set in the world of my other favorite game of all time. Short and sweet, definitely worth playing.
Nice map – brings me back to the old days of Quake and Duke Nukem 3D when they were mainstream.
I review this one at my blog and found it so fresh to give a so good touch and feeling of quake1 really worth even if it’s sadly too short
Very unique and fun! Nothing frustrating. I hope the author makes a second level for this.
wow, need more need more. I sit and wait. still waiting…..
ok, great map, would love a long 500mb style 17 map version.
While you don’t get much gameplay for 6.9 megabytes, it truly is a quality mod.
I played this twice, first on “boys” then on “men” because of how short and easy it was and I had a ton of fun both times. Like many people have said it is very similar to Quake, which was a pretty awesome game, so I think many people (myself included) like it for that reason. This however does have some stunning textures and visuals and among the best I’ve seen in Half-Life. The textures are typical dungeon type ones, and so are very similar and not very bright or colourful, but they are still brilliant to look at and you will often find yourself examining every detail of the brilliantly textured walls. This was easily the stand out part.
The gameplay was decent although too easy. You just run down corridors and kill Xen aliens, throw a few levers and pick up a key along the way. Like I said, fun but easy and it is probably worth playing this mod a skill higher then you would with a normal mod. The map design was well done too, although there wasn’t that much of it. It did the job and kept me interested along the journey.
Definitely one of the best looking mods in Half-Life, and is worth playing, as it should only take you about 10-20 minutes to complete.
WOW! This is a neat single map! It has it’s own, unique flair with new (better said snatched) stuff such as textures, prefabs, sounds etc. but the common HL weapons, enemytypes.
There is no story as it was part of Russian map contest back in 2009, it was called “Level Design” for Half-Life.ru. At least there are some (easy) button / keycard puzzles and scripted events.
The flair is also a standalone, as so many things are reminding of the “Quake” series, but there is also more stuff taken from other games like “Unreal” etc. (mostly sounds if I’m right)
Pro’s:
-Unique “Quake”-like flair, creepy atmosphere / ambience
-Good mapping with a few eye-catchers (alien slave heads at walls) – very detailed but mostly brownish
-Some surprising scripts (enemy spawns)
-A few easy puzzles
-Secret area (with original secret area “Quake” sound!)
-Nice main menu background, funny difficulty selections
-No bugs
Con’s:
-Unfortunately very short
-Balancing – sort of too easy, even on hard
-A touch too brownish textures – some more or other colors would be nice
-Standard puzzles only
-It’s pretty much like the old “Quake” – meaning it’s all too obvious what can / will happen or where enemies are (being) placed
-“Clever AI is elsewhere” tehehe
-Some enemies don’t spawn every time (as written in readme)
Result: Whether or not you know the “Quake” series, this is a short but fun must play!
This level / game was actually easy on easy level; nice concept, wished there was more.

Honestly has to be one of the shortest mods I have played when considering how different it is to your standard Half Life themed maps/mods. Visually it certainly captures that feeling of Quake that also carries though to the design principles. I would certainly be interested in seeing a much longer version of something like this in future. Unfortunately the mod was far too easy, far too short and far too predictable for me to recommend to everyone. That said, I am glad that I played it…

This could be accurately called Half-Quake if that name wasn’t already claimed. It’s a single map, and it really looks and feels like Quake – brown textures, creepy details and sounds, spinning weapons, and traps all over that open monster closets.
It looks and sounds great, especially with the detail textures (primitive bump mapping) enabled. It just doesn’t have much substance. I am all for a map that’s short and sweet, and I liked playing it – but I hesitate to recommend it since it directly depends on the player’s particular taste.

It felt like Quake indeed. I enjoyed this mod but I wished this could be a lot longer.
